The accomodation looks better at van mildert and all the rooms are single too which is a plus, yet the social side of trevs seems better (just going by the jcr websites here, not experience lol) and they have better sporting facilities (tennis courts and gym) Which of the two colleges would I be more likely to get an offer from? Does anybody know what percentage of students are from state/private schools at these two colleges? Any bad points about the colleges I should maybe know? Thanx 4 all the replies by the way Very helpful

There's a mighty virtual tour on the Trevs JCR website - spinny camera views and everything - I recommend taking a look, it takes you around the whole college.

The virtual tour is quite cool! And you get to see the Buttery hehe
A few points to make:
1. Trevs does actually have it's fair share of ducks which randomly walk around (particularly on the grassy area which goes along the road which has Aidans steps on it)....we have a little pond too!
2. Erm, I'm tired....but Trevs is awesome so apply there! But I know people at Mildert and they're cool
Visit Durham if you can and have a look to decide for yourself - as for gyms, Trevs does indeed have a lovely gym for the price of £5/year!
Ooh, the castle had some ducks this summer too! Actually it was one duck that was nesting in the courtyard and she hatched a load of realy cute ducklings! Then the RSPCA came and captured them and released them in the river.
Hehehe the river is the least safest place for them. I have been responsible for smacking 2 ducks and one duckling with my oar during my time rowing
Not on purpose though, I sometimes hear random quacking from behind me and I'm like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" so stop rowing. Kinda annoys my crew when we're racing though

Dobbs, is 5'8" too short to row? I don't really wnna cox...
There's nowt quite like the sight of your roommates bare behind first thing in the morning, as he gets dressed before heading to his 9am. Especially if he has a hairy bott!

I'm 5'8 and I row
Although it's a big disadvantage....and unless you're at the gym every single day and really concentrating on rowing you won't be as good as the rest of the rowers in college.
You also won't have much of a chance of joining DUBC (Durham University Boat Club) - they're the best of the best and if you're 5'8 you'll have to be built like a brick house covered in cement covered in gold covered in some sort of forcefield to get in!
I'm good at rowing, but I just cant pull good ERG (rowing machine) times due to my height mainly! But I still row and our crew isn't too bad...it's fun

Is van mildert the only college with guaranteed single rooms for all first years?
Trevs you're guaranteed a single room for at least 2 terms of the year. Some people manage to get away with having a single room all year, simply because some people like sharing so much that they just keep the same shared room all year - even though they have every right to a single room
I thought Mildert had shared rooms too though? If they do, you could end up being stuck in one all year, and if you REALLY don't want to then do you want to take that chance?
Last year I think 4 people had to share rooms for a term at Van Mildert. They can never get the numbers exactly right, but with just 4 sharing you're very unlikely to be chosen; there might not be any sharing this year. Despite that they still sent us all a room share questionnaire.
No, it's just that sometimes I'd blunder in at 5am and others it was 11pm. I never felt any particular need to inform him when I'd get back, on the off chance he'd be boning a random. He got off scott free cos my woman at the time lived in norwich, and I was only infrequently unfaithful.
