Hi there, I'm doing maths but I'm not in Manor Hall. Stats.....bah, how could you? :p:

Haha, it's not that bad.. Nothing better than a bit of mind-numbing number crunching.

Where are you staying?

Well definitely hear from them again cos they have to send us an accommodation contract thingy to sign (they sent us a draft with the handbook stuff). Also, theyll definitely tell us if were sharing a room or not before we get there. I think they only give out room numbers once we get there though. However, you dont need your room number for your address. You just send stuff to Manor Hall with your name and the porters sort it into pigeon holes.

Hello! Finally I found real people staying in Manor Hall- thought I was going to be the only one for a few moments there. I didn't realise that the floors were separated by sex- sharing a bathroom with 14 girls will be tough... Anyhoo... I'll be doing Archaeology and Anthropology, not biochemistry like most other people here for the very valid reason that I don't fully understand science in general... You know, other halls have sent out loads of info about freshers events and stuff- does anyone know what Manor has in store for us? Need to work out what stupid clothing I need to bring! Rose x

Yeh, its weird the way they havent told us yet about specific stuff thatll be on - fancy dress parties can be a nightmare to plan for! Im sure theyll send something later.
I hope they give us our address....as most of the forms ask for it. Plus, they would need to let us know before we get there as to if we got what we wanted i.e. manor or sinclair, shared or single etc.

I think the address is: Manor Hall, Lower Clifton Hill, Bristol, BS8 1BU. We don't need room numbers I don't think because post is sorted alphabetically in pigeon holes. Even if you were put in Sinclair eventually there probably isn't a problem putting Manor as your address. Also- I just read that we get given keys and 'information packs' about freshers week once we arrive on move in day, so that doesn't leave a lot of time for fancy dress sorting out now does it? Haven't had any admin stuff for nearly a week now though so perhaps I'm a bit out of touch with everything. qui scit?

Is everyone else as excited as me about Uni? Can't wait to finally get some freedom! Have just (well three months ago still qualifies as 'just' doesn't it?) escaped from a seven year imprisonment in boarding school, and I live completely in the middle of nowhere so am very much looking forward to doing whatever I want, whenever I want. That's why I chose Clifton, and Manor in particular because CHH has almost as many pointless rules as my old schools did- not cool. Did you know that you have to get prior written permission from the warden in CHH if there will be a party of more than four people in a bedroom? How bizarre... Okay, I've just realised that I've gone on a pretty long rant and should bugger off right about now. x

what telephone number did you guys put down on the application for a student card thingy - i looked on the website but there are lots of diff. telephone numbers.
also, apart from this application thingy, is there anything else i need to send off this week? im terribly disorgansised...
so much stuff.
Ive sent off my fees form (minus a term time address..hmm, maybe i should have put the one suggested above).
But i think the only one that needs to be in is the student card and sports pass thing?

Woo hoo! Im going to Manor! I can't wait its going to be loads of fun!!!!!

Woo indeed! Sorry if that sounded a bit half hearted, i geniuinely am very excited for you but it's late... and I'm beginning to crash ever so slightly. Not sure how I'm going to survive freshers fortnight at this rate- oh, and I thought I should update everyone who occasionally looks at this forumy type thing about my perpetual fancy dress dilemma- I have decided seeing as Manor have not given us any info to bring: my old school tie, a cowboy hat and a wand. That should cover most eventualities wont it??? And if they have a slappers and rappers do dah I shall just go and mug some chav outside MaccyD's. plan. x

Oh man I am obsessed aren't I? Okay, promise from now on not to drone about costumes/dressing up/or anything else for that matter. And I really am going to sleep now. Night x
Morning! Has anyone actually BEEN to manor hall? I never even went to see the outside let alone the inside...seeing as I didn't apply to go there. I don't really mind the conditions to be honest.. after having lived in a tent for 3 months with scorpions, snakes and spiders, pooing in a hole and my shower being a bucket of water thrown over you every 3 weeks..if there's enough water that is... ahh I love life in Leicester.. teehee!

ok ok africa.

I have never been to Manor ever, although i have a friend who stayed there and said she had a really great time, so with any luck that will apply to us all too! Anyone heard back from Manor since you sent the form thingy off?

Hey guys! I'm in Manor as well!! I'm so glad I've found some others, I kept going on the Bristol Student Union website, on the board, and no one else seemed to be going to Manor. So hi!!

I've sent off my form, but haven't heard anything back. Do we know before we go where our room is? We don't find out when we get down there do we? I've never visited Manor Hall, but it's in Clifton and that's supposed to be a really nice part of Bristol. Like a little village in a city I think.

Oh yeah, I'm studying Drama and English btw. Looks like I'll be stuck with all you clever scientific people, who actually have to do work!!!

Hey tashfinch, I thought exactly the same thing until I found this little place last week- I was absolutely gutted that Manor appeared to be the most unpopular/unspoken about hall in the entire city- but apparently not- woo!

The way things are working out with rooms etc., we definitely have to sign a residential contract before we arrive... but it never mentioned telling us where we were exactly... so I'm guessing we'll find out on the day. I've not been to see the hall either but I'm going up to Bristol on the 22nd for a bit of a theatre trip to see Tristan and Yseulta at Bristol Old Vic so might have to incorporate a bit of snooping around outside and inside (if they let me in!) in the early afternoon... they use the same two photos over and over in the prospectuses so I'm guessing that one of the outside walls and a bench are the most picturesque things they can use to sell the place- I tell you, I'm not expecting much!

Ooh, and back to tashfinch again before I finish- I am incredibly jealous of you right now: drama and english is probably my dream course... but at least I'm not doing a proper scientific thing- I think I only have about 3 or 4 hours in my department every week... which can only be a good thing! By the way, were you thinking about doing Guys and Dolls with Manor? It looks like it could be quite good fun but lots of people have also said that hall productions are absolutely rubbish and it's better to stick with the main university societies... decisions, decisons. Anyhoo, bye for now x

Hey!

So I'm at Manor Hall too-obviously no idea which building, room cos manor hall seem to be the slowest hall at getting accommodation sorted (what was the need to put themselves(and us) through yet another round of personal statements?!)

And I'm really excited about starting but nervous too and its made worse by the fact that I've searched all (well lots) of the Bristol website and I can find loads of info on all the other halls' freshers weeks but nothing about manor's! y?!

Anyway, cant wait to see you all there! Angela

btw im another scientist-biology

It does seem to be that Manor is the worst at telling us things...........they must be good at other things - the bar would be good.

To rosellen - you into drama then? Hope you are, so I'm not the only crazy person in the hall! :elefant: I was thinking about getting involved in Guys and Dolls, just for the fun aspect. Some of the funnest shows (hmm, that's not a word) that I've been in have actually been terrible productions, but I've had the best time doing them. Really, I don't see how you can lose. Even if it's terrible, you get to meet lots of new people who you're living with. So I think you should ALL get involved in the drama, even all you sciency people! (of which there are many). But I was going to get involved in the uni drama societies as well. Just need to pick which ones, there are so many!

oh, and Angela - hi!! I'm glad you're nervous. I bet we all are, but I am pretty worried bout leaving home, friends, having to cook etc. Don't worry about the fresher's stuff, we can always make our own fun!!!

Keep posting on here guys, it's really great to hear from other people who are going to Manor!!
