Don't worry about missing lectures, I'm sure there'll be somebody in our corridor who gets some cruel sadistic pleasure from waking people up early. There's always one...

apparently theres 18 of us on the corridoor ALL sharing a kitchen (argh!) but it has 2 fridgefreezers and 3 ovens/cookers. she said thers lots of veggies on floor 4, and we have a meat free fridge to share. also the rooms are a good size... probably due to the annoying small beds ( 2'6" ) not so good that make it look larger!

    groovy eh!

The nearest tutor to me is Miss Sarah McCool!! Lets hope she lives up to her name then!! I don't get it..do we need 2 tutors because there's more people on the 1st floor... a west and an east wing I guess?! Maybe one for the girlies and one for the boys, judging by the sex of the tutors?!

Hi nick B welcome to our family!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH ! seriously, that had to be said- I went down to Bristol today and thought I'd pop by Manor to see if they'd let me look at my new flat in Sinclair House. BROWN doesn't even begin to describe it, but it's a start: brown furniture (of which there appears to be a severe lackage in my room), brown carpets, brown doors, brown (due to stains- eek!) walls, brown EVERYTHING! And, to top it all off there's a tree growing just outside my window so it's DARK as well. The helpful lady did say two rather helpful things though: "When the leaves drop, it will be nice and bright in here!"- does she not realise that Winter kills both trees AND light? and "all the stairs will keep you nice and fit!" GREAT! Oh, and it is quite literally the size of a shoebox- I have an extra small bed because even small singles dont fit in it apparently! Sorry, just needed to rant and I thought here would be an appropriate place to do it! Oh, and hello to Nick B in Richmond House- you're just around the corner from me, come and join the brown flat party... woo!

Hey NickB! :ciao: Wow! You've no idea how happy I am that someone is near me doing Drama and English!!! I mean, there are only 12 of us (about) anyway. Ohh, I'm so pleased now!! When did you do your interview? Mine was at the end of January (can't remember the date, I've blocked it out).

Sorry, I won't turn this into a Drama and English thread. I think, Rosellen, some pretty posters may be a solution to your problems for the Brown room. And the tree, well, students can do daft things when drunk. I'm thinking matches or an axe...........

I really just want to get down to Bristol now. I am sooooooooooo bored at home. Even daytime TV has lost its novelty value. Although i did have fun last night, went to Ikea to buy basically everything, from funky bedding to practical pans!!

I've tried to blank it from my memory, but here is the basic setup: the flats aren't in corridors- there's outside staircases all around the building (my one is for 10, 11 and 13... so yours might be around the corner of the building) with a flat on each floor, so it's not laid out really with socialising in mind... once you get in the front door there's a very dark corridor which has the five bedrooms to the left and a kitchenette sort of thing on the right. The kitchen has a large fridgefreezer, about 7 or 8 individual cupboards (varying in size), an absolutely mini and ancient electric cooker and a sink. At the other end of the room there was a table and four chairs, but extra chairs are in quite a big storage cupboard just behind the table (containing v v ancient hoover, ironing board and bucket (either to be sick in or for use with mop I expect)... which will probably be useful for shoving things in if everyone brings a microwave, toaster etc... (not the bucket, the cupboard) There was a notice board thingy in there as well... (if that helps)
Umm... past the kitchen there was a boiler room which had the sink in, then the next room was just the toilet, :toilet: and the next was the shower (which I couldn't bring myself to look at- there's only so much a girl can take in one day)... and no communal living space- which I wouldn't mind except the rooms are tiny, and because it's so dark it feels really claustrophobic... Furniture wise in the rooms- TINYTINY bed, hobbit sized cupboard, tiny precarious shelves just above the bed and a desk... I didn't have a bed side table but I'm sure there's meant to be one... Well, there you are! If you have any more questions or just want to hear my whinge and whine a bit more, don't hesitate to ask!
Oh, and Tash, better than posters methinks- I'm bringing lots and lots and lots of lights! :stupido2: x
Just realised that the storage cupboard was actually bigger than my room- but if you're in room 1, you get a whole extra foot and a half of floor space, so some people may be ecstatically happy but those like me will remain very bitter (until I actually get there and it will probably all be finefinefine)

Sorry to post again so quickly- but just remembered about the tree! My dad already said that he'll get me some superstrong weed killer stuff which apparently works wonders on the trees that the forestry commission wont let us cut down in our garden- more subtle than fire perhaps, and less likely to get me thrown out into the streets?

haha..ok. well, i guess the bonus is that we all have single rooms and don't have to share? but im sure in the sinclair booklet it said we should have a 2 seater sofa (Although there are 5 of us). ooh well, once we are there and people are living in it im sure it will be fine. Im in flat 14..so thats the 1st floor right?

Yep, you're right, no sharing for us lot- I just got out of bed on the wrong side this morning... clearly, which i why I'm whinging so much- just ignore me. Yes, I thought that (seeing as it's in the alternative prospectus) that we'd have something like a sofa/livng room, but no joy! Yeah, I think you're the 1st floor... it's quite a few stairs up tho!

Hi. Tashfinch my interview day was mid december- think it was first one. Was pleased to get in after all the stuff u had to do (essay for english, essay for drama, workshop, interview, seminar...!!). Yeah good to have someone on same course- I was thinking might not even have someone on my course in my halls with so few ppl but luckily i do.
Rosellen- sorry to hear about your room and this probably wasn't your priority- but can u remember anything about richmond house? Just can't find any pictures or anything and I didn't get chance to visit any accomodation when was down for interview.

Hey no worries- I was just complaining, i'm sure it will be lovely once people move in! All I know is that it's all male and it's a tiny bit further up the hill but Manor Hall, Manor House, Sinclair and Richmond are all v v close together- I remember reading something about it on the website at one point when I was looking for stuff about sinclair... erm... here we go!: "Richmond House (men) is one of the oldest houses in Clifton, built between 1701-1703. It has a fine staircase, and a partly panelled room. In the 1790s the house was used as a boarding school for young gentlemen run by a Mr William Sewell, and in the early 1840s Mr and Mrs J.K. Bragge also conducted a boys' boarding school here. Mr Bragge was one of the honorary secretaries of the Merchant Seamen's Bible Society for the Port of Bristol, which was formed "to promote the religious and moral improvement of our seamen". From the 1860s until the 1940s the house was the home of the Revd Mr Smith and his large family of maiden daughters, one of whom became one of the first ladies on the city council in Bristol (1920), and one of the first female J.P.s. A noted horsewoman, the site of her stables is now occupied (in part) by Sinclair House." That really wasn't much help, was it? If you phone Manor Hall office tho (number on one of the accommodation forms methinks), they will know EVERYTHING about facilities etc. Hope that's any help whatsoever! Hey- a post where I didn't whine! What progress! x

hahaha! sorry- just read what the richmond house thing said, and as I am very immature and crude- I misread a sentence as "to promote the religious and moral improvement of our semen"... oh well, we all have dreams.
