Thanks for scaring the life outta me people! I have a place in Pooley hall, what's so bad about it exactly? I don't know anyone in london paying any less unless they're sharing a room and even they aren't paying alot less. My parents are helping me with accomodation fees, we're splitting them 50/50, will this be ok do you think? I have a big loan, over £5000. Is it just the money that's the problem or is it a bad atmosphere?

This is getting kinda heated!
Maybe i'm the only person who hasn't applied to QMUL yet, but all this info is really helpful to me! My grades were ABC, so QM is pretty much the only prestigious one i'm applying to (QM, keele, kent, edinburgh, sussex, kingston), so if i got in (hmmmm...) i was definitely gonna go there. i'd really want to live in halls, but i was suspicious when the uni website gave no info about accommodation fees :afraid:
Gah i'm not sure... i guess it would be a once-in-a-lifetime kidna thing tho... hmmm...

But surely your experience is what you make it. Not everyone has the same expectations, requirements, or finance. You said yourself that because your friends spent so long socialising, they ended up with very bad results. Maybe other students have more self-control? I'm sure its possible to be sensible and balance it out rather than let one side "win" over the other. Maybe I just don't know because I haven't started yet, but enough students do well at QM, so maybe it's the minority that don't?

I have a brother who went to QMUL and was living in South Woodford (Beaumont Hall)...the reports from him were diabolical, and thats an understatement, but you'll be glad to hear that that hall is no longer in use apparently. its all in the student experience though!...

Diabolical eh? So what exactly happened....

In regards to Fluffy's view, I see that u r very bias towards QMUL, and I'm also a QMUL student and yet I'm showing unbias. What 'm trying to do here is warn people of the consequences of living out, and try and stop people from making the same mistake that myself and many of my friends made. Just out of curiosity have you lived in halls before?? If you have then I respect your opinion, but if you haven't then I dont think u're in any place to be making judgements.

Erm - being on my 3rd degree (all at different universities), I persoanlly feel well qualified to make statements about accommodation, having had experience of a lot of university halls (not only my own, but of friends at different unis).
