Apparently I am. Except I asked for self catering and got a doctors note saying why I needed self catering and they still gave me catered. What are they playing at?

Anyway, my friend has been put here too, and he didn't request it. Is Ranmoor any good, or is it somewhere that all the late appliers are put because nobody wants to go there? Sorry if I sound cynical.

I'm also in Ranmoor! T'was my first choice (and exactly what I asked for), so I'm looking forward to going . Haven't actually seen the place though, so I'm a little apprehensive about what the rooms will be like--I hope you're right, guitarmarama, and they're not too cramped *eyes pile of stuff*.

Seems a bit strange that you can only collect mail at certain times, though.

My german teacher stayed in Ranmoor (okay it was 20 years ago lol), and i know someone who stayed there last year, and they both said they had the time of their lives. Ranmoor is much more of a social hall, simply because it's so big. I always seen Stevenson as much more of a "classic" hall, and so on.

Also, I have a theory about halls of residence, which I posted elsewhere, but I'm guna repost here... This is just from my experience with people I know wanting to get into these places...

There's large demand for Stevenson or Earnshaw, little for Sorby or Halifax, and the in-betweenies are Tapton and Ranmoor. Now, in order to disappoint the least number of people, they'll sort out the low-demand ones 1st (as well as the people who have disabilities and the like), then the in-betweenies, and then the ones that people really want to go to, just to satisfy the most people, because anyone who wants to go to the in-betweenies or the not-so-favoured ones will be happy they've got their first choice. This therefore minimises the number of people complaining and wanting to change.

But I agree, your situation is a bit absurd and should be sorted out.

I'm off to Ranmoor baby! Hee hee.

Does anyone know the average size room? Just considering the amount of room I need!

Varies block to block or if you're in the annexe. Rooms aren't huge but they're big enough, nothing to worry about really.

ok
just thinking about all my stuff and whether or not it will all fit in!

Reply 7

Yeah it should do, makes it more cosy anyway!

You've easily got the best bar at Ranmoor which is a massive plus point, with a quality projector TV for any sports. If you've got a JCR this year that actually ****ing does something then i'm sure you'll have a great time.

Best bar?! Wicked!

Reply 9

sounds good to me!

Reply 10

Yup i'm off there too

The bar looks good, don't think i'll be able to drag myself away from it.

Important question:
Is there anywhere we can watch sky/ntl and just terrestrial tv? I don't watch much TV, but I do like to see newsnight and will and grace... If I don't see my tv, i get stressed.

Hmm i've just been looking at the intro week and it's definitely not to my taste, but hey i'll give it all a go!

Reply 11

I'll have to check out the bar...

OO that's one suave bar!

Reply 12

The halls have TV rooms (well Halifax, Stevo and Earnshaw all do so I presume Ranmoor will). You probably won't have much competition for the TV that time of the night.

hehe oh goodo

I only really watch newsnight, 10:30-11:20pm, and Will and Grace on Friday nights sometimes...

As long as I can watch these, I'll be happy.

If I can't, then there will be WAR!

Ok yes last years JCR were useless, but this year things will be different. In addition to the programme already revelled on TSR (Thread - Ranmoor Intro week) we will also be running a number of daytime events, including:

Monday 19th - School Sports Day (compete to win prizes)
Thursday 22nd - Ranmoor village Fete (including human table football and plenty more fun and games)
Saturday 24th - Meadowhall Guided Tour
Sunday 25th - Alton Towers Trip
Sunday 2nd - Paintball Trip

Hope everyone is really looking forward to moving into Ranmoor now! It will be the best hall in 2005/6!
