use ear plugs?
i'm the opposite, the rain doesn't bother me at all but unless i use one of those sleeping masks you get free on planes i wake up as soon as it gets light (tho i've only been like that since iv been away at uni where my room is really dark, before i moved away it was never an issue)

I have a skylight, I like it.
Hmm....I don't really know if there's much you can do about the sound, but as <3 says, you can always buy a blind if you need to block out the morning light.

If it's a Velux brand skylight (most are) you can buy the blind units from Magnet or something (or find their website and order a catalogue). They come in many different colours and types and you are meant to be able to install them yourself now.
I have a huuuuge f-off skylight (last night in the storms in was so loud) but I have a plain grey blackout blind and didn't even know there WAS lightning!

I HATE skylights. Got 3 in my room! So i get up with the sun. Even with the skylight blinds, which are realy rubbish. And the rain! why!

You need to buy the blackout ones. I can't see any light at all through mine.

I think in Russia for some celebration they had a jet drop chemicals into the clouds so it wouldn’t rain and upset the festivities but I haven’t heard much about that; the only one that is well documented is when Mercedes faced with a hailstorm every year decided to disperse the clouds rather than spend money building a cover for the sizable new car waiting area outside a factory but I cant remember which one.

So in conclusion put cardboard on the outside of the window and tape it down if it’s really a bother to you.
I love them. But not if the sun shines on me. I agree that the rain is smoothing, aslong as it's not tinny sounding.

I quite like it. Its not as bad as a conservatory roof... that pisses me off - sounds like a fricking hailstorm when actually, its spitting. When it's raining steadily it's quite nice, but if it starts hammering it down - then it can get rather loud. Earplug's would be my only suggestion to be honest - short of putting a pillow over your head.
