St Andrews: Weekend B4 Freshers What do we do with our parents?

Hey guys, I’m just wondering, on the 18th we have like the parents reception and that service in the chapel for parents and ourseleves, well if you arrive on the 17th where do our parents stay, is their enough room in our rooms, or do should they book a hotel.

I wonder if anyone else is thinking, but doesn’t want to look silly asking, so I thought I’d open Pandora’s box.

Hmm tis a good question, I wouldn't have thought they could stay in your room, though I guess it depends if you're in halls or not. But my parents aren't gonna bother staying for the parent stuff so I can't really help..this was pointless of me, sorry!

See the parents reception, is it just out parents that should attend or do we have to go with them?

it says on the invite that students arent allowed :-S but you'll have a hard time finding a hotel for your parents now! since a lot of the international/english ppl (and there are lots) have booked well in advance! i tried to find a hotel on the friday night to save the drive on the saturday morning and i could find a thing! :-O

whoes parents are staying for the reception and is anyone else goin 2 the "informal service"
My parents are staying to the reception, but i dont know if i am going to the "informal service" yet. Also, i have rented a flat on South Street just 2 days ago. Hehe. Im going next Monday cause my parents dont know Scotland and want to visit it and know where i am going to live, etc ... They are only leaving on the 19th. So bad - Oh ell, could be worst. At least i will have the rest of the week (better, the next 3 months) without them. : )

What is the policy on having guests come and stay with you? For example, if my sister came to visit would she be allowed to stay in my room?

Yeah i was wondering about that, I think you can have someone stay over as long as the warden or high-up person knows maybe...also it depends on if you have a roommate i guess? :dontknow:

It says in the accommodation guide that I got that you have to sign guests in.

Yep guests have to be signed in. In John Burnet we just have a book in front hall which you have to write in. You also have to put down if u r going to be away overnight.
Accommodation is almost impossible to come by for your parents in St A's at the beginning of Fresher's week. But my parents got in to a place at Strathkinness- a nearby village.
But anywayz, yay for everybody coming to St Andrew's! I'm just going in to 2nd year and I had a great time last year. If anybody has any questions I'd be happy to answer them if I can.
