Well it is an "essay" subject, so expect lots of writing. It will be difficult if you don't have good verbal reasoning, but apart from that if you are competent with your writing style and have a good grasp of the English language, you should find it comfortable.

P.S. I haven't experienced Media Studies, I'm just passing judgement from what I've heard.
You're probably going to get a lot of replies saying that it is a 'mickey mouse' subject, blah blah blah. Be prepared.

You'll find it easy if you enjoy the subject and have good essay skills. There's lots of coursework involved too and it helps if you are quite creative. (I haven't atually studied media but quite a few of my friends did, most of them ended up with B's and C's overall at A-Level and they are all quite intelligent.)

Well, it is renowned for being an 'easy' subject, but it depends where your strengths lie. If you're good at essay writing, you should be fine!

Oh, and I think it actually has one of the lowest % of A grade passes!

it would have one of the lowest % of A grade passes because it is the subject of choice for people of low intelligence.

Errr, thing is although I got a B in English Language, my essay skills are not spectacular....

Wow I’m actually surprised, that you need to be a decent essay writer to succeed in this subject....

No disrespect to anyone, but I thought you would just watch a movie then write a few lines on it... end of...

Maybe there are know easy A levels after all?

Anyway please keep you thoughts on the subject coming

Did you think it was going to be easy? I wouldn't think taking a subject because it's an easy A is a good reason for doing so!!
The exams are all essay based. You also have to write 2000 word evaluations for all your coursework. In your second year you undertake your own research into any area of the media. You have to write an extended essay for it - 2500/3000 words. (However, I'm sure it all depends on what board you're with, my friends took WJEC)

I'm sure you'll be fine with a B at English Language, it's a good grade afterall.
what

Maybe there are no easy A levels after all?

Precisely

well know disrespect, but that is the general consensus right...

My logic behind doing this subject is that, I need to boost up my UCAS points...

Brunel want 280 for Computer cience from 2 A levels and 2 or 3 A/S levels, and I feel I would have a better chance of making the grade by doing a subject which "i thought" was 'less demanding' than say Accounts....

OK, yes, it is known as an easier subject, but that doesn't mean it will be a walk in the park! Don't take it if you're not interested in it because you will not enjoy it and will probably get a lower grade as a result.
Never say a subject is easy for starters. Although it can appear quite a soft subject for those who are used to long coursework pieces where you have to spend alot of your time analyising intricate details, how well did you do in your English exams, did you enjoy them? Apart from a little extra terminology and some other media related stuff you wont find it that different and certainly not too demanding all long as you are an academic who loves his long worded essays?

From what i gather (from my friends) media requires a lot of planning and organising - my friends had to write and film a kids TV show and so group-skills are important.

It looks fun, and if you put the effort in, should be fine...

I think it's funny how people think drama is an easy subject when it is UNDOUBTABLY the hardest subject i have ever taken. Intellectually, it's not difficult, but emotionally and physically it's a bitch!

No no, it does exist though! It is called Film studies
what
will be studying it at A/S level and I just want to know how 'easy' or difficault the subject may be....

I know nothing about the subject, so please give me a brief desciption of it....

Is it common for students of this subject to get an A

straight forward at AS level, bloody hard at A2! You will have to work really hard to achieve an A in your coursework at A2.

No it's not that common at all to get an A, i got a higher mark in my english lit exam than i did in media. I think it's really important to enjoy the subject, one of my friends got full marks on her exam and coursework, but that was mainly because she never switched off. She was always thinking of media when she watched adverts and films because she enjoyed it.

lol hows that? have you got any facts to back this up i'm curious.

i can quite honestly say that wasn't the fist thing that came into my mind. I had no idea what the subject would be like, i took it because it sounded bloody interesting!

i have to agree. I have heard alot of stories from my friends who say that it's very difficult. In some ways it reminds me very much of english literature except you have to create your own setting and act as well which i don't think i could do.
