I'm pretty sure it was my A-Levels. I'm currently doing A2 Chemistry, A2 Maths, A2 Psychology and AS Italian. Even though you don't need any previous knowledge for Japanese, I thought that maybe my linguistic-ability of being able to speak English, Cantonese and Italian would have helped me. It also says on their prospectus that you don't need to have done Ecomomics before and they only want BBC or something. But they probably saw my personal statement and didn't think I was dedicated enough for Economics and immediately rejected me.
That is so weird, you sound like the perfect candidate to me! I think you should phone up and demand an explanation!
