Ransom Pickard... help!!

Just got my accommodation offer this morning and I am absolutely gutted, to say the least.

They've put me in a shared standard room in Ransom Pickard, Lopes Hall. I applied for a single en-suite self-catered room - for the simple reasons that a) I'm a vegetarian who really needs to cater for herself and b) I am painfully shy and private and I cannot bear sharing a room. Seriously. I have issues with friends sleeping in my room, let alone perfect strangers. And shared bathrooms!! *cries*
Plus I've heard that Ransom Pickard is all isolated from the rest of the hall and just generally I'm feeling pretty **** about the whole thing.

Any thoughts? Is it worth calling them and begging for something else? How likely is it that I'll be able to move when I get there?

Hi

Lots of people have supposedly asked to change rooms as they are not that happy with what they have got....

You can either email [email protected] with your student number (the one which came on the front of a letter you will have received) and just say that you hope to be moved into a single room etc etc, and they will then add you to a waiting list.

Or you can phone up the the accomodation number and speak to them about it... which I would guess is best for you as you have been given completely the opposite to what you want!

I'm not sure how long this 'waiting list' is though!

Randy P, as it is known is pretty central to most things. I moved from Duryard (exactly the same as RP) to St Davids mid way through the year and they had several places because its off campus and thus not so popular (but a great place to live). I advise you either ring up the admissions office, which will probably result in you being put in Lafrowda, or go to the self catering office when you arrive and ask for a change.
I was originally put in with a 43 year old geezer (who i met and disliked) in kilmorie last year, in a shared room. Go to the accoms office on the first minute of your first day, or talk to them right now on the phone and just say 'look, there's a massive problem, I'm a vegetarian and I don't trust catered food, I'm a private person who can't deal with this sort of arrangement', which infact is exactly the line I used. They contacted me later telling me I'd got a place in duryard. I think they keep a certain amount of rooms for 'floaters' in the first week or so. Be persistent and they won't ignore your request, you sound genuine, so they'll believe you.

everything will be fine  don't worry.

You may find sharing is a benefit though as you won't be completely isolated? Grub could be a problem though.

hey i got put in ransom pickard in my fresh year and yes i was totally gutted too when i got the letter. However that said my room-mate was and still is an absolutely amazing guy, im living with him this year. Ransom pickard itself looks an absolute sh** hole, its pretty basic, but the people in there are probably the best in the uni. Everyone that was in my group of friends in Randy P that shared a room are either living with their roommates or are still really close friends. I wouldnt worry too much about the catering side of things, Lopes hall food is arguable the best in the uni and a couple of my mates who are veggies had no problems.

If u really don;t want to share a room you can call the accomodation office, the earlier the better and they may be be able to sort you out, if not it really isnt the end of the world, i wouldnt have wanted to be in any other halls.

ps randy p is in the best location, 15mins from uni and 10 mins from town, really is the best halls the uni has to offer (although it may not look it at first sight!)
