i havent been on campus over a year now and i use it to send emails. just use http://ex2.bham.ac.uk for email otherwise. outlook web access

and if you need the university IP for anything (athens, etc) and you arent on campus, then the proxy server is always useful:

http://wpad.bham.ac.uk

hmm do you mean i enter the ex2.bham thing as my outgoing server? i just tried sending an email to my hotmail address but got this message:
The host 'smpt.bham.ac.uk' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'imap4.bham.ac.uk', Server: 'smpt.bham.ac.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
it's fine for receiving email, but sending seems to be a bit tricky at the moment through outlook.
