rant about kings' reputation

ok i know this has been going on for a long while, but is kings' name still marred?

i'm so so sick of UCL LSE and IC students getting a kick out of bad mouthing our uni- strand poly it ain't!

i just wish kings would:

1) get rid of subjects like *coughcomputersciencecough*, any subjects that kings really suck at

2) kings, please, you're not an underachiever- stop taking in clearing applicants, for chrissakes!

3) get better PR people

4) try to get the word of mouth going for your best courses: law, medicine, english, war studies, history, etc, etc.

btw, the way kings is viewed in the western world is COMPLETELY different from the way kings is viewed in the eastern world, especially in countries such as Hong Kong and Singapore- people just don't understand this!

In HK and S'pore, kings is just as good as any of the other london Big 4 unis, so why is the kings name still marred (kind of)?!?!?!

Comp Sci is a big subject in recent times, getting rid of it would not be a good idea, improving would be a better one...

it almost sounded like you were calling Comp Sci mickey mouse
Reply 2
no i'm not calling CS a mickey mouse subject, i'm just merely stating the fact that kings gets pulled down in the league tables because of subjects its not good at. e.g. computer science. it has nothing to do with the subject itself.
TBH, I think that UCL is totally overrated: were it not in London, I really don't think it would be all that well-known. Kings is fine: don't worry. I'm not sure why it doesn't have a better reputation, but it's still respected.

UCL and KINGS both suck, IC is the best and you can tell because it gives higher offers, the higher the offer the better the uni.

You're comparing apples and oranges. IC may be the best for sciences - but it can hardly be called "the best" overall when it's only a specialized institution.

I don't supposed you're at all biased...
kids, kids, kids, settle down!

Do you know how pathetic you all sound, in terms of getting a job which is what going to university is really about, you're no less likely to get a good job from kings than any of either UCL or Imperial. It all depends on you not your universities reputuation. All the unis stated above might be great but a reputation alone won't garuntee you a good job so please settle down!

lets take a subject they all teach, maths, lets compare the standard offer
imperial: AAB sometimes AAA
UCL: ABB
Kings: (ucas points or some other joke)
Reply 8
OMG they ask for ucas points or some other joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

isntAAA - 360 UCAS? therefore Imperial is asking for UCAS points,

I get your point but it was kind strangely put

hahah tktaylor you sound like you're 3! you're still not getting the point are you? btw, higher offers from IC doesn't mean its better. i never said IC wasn't good. its great. only for the sciences. it only teaches the sciences anyway. and business at the wye campus?

livingitlarge: yes, mom/dad.... :p:

Looks more like "AAB" to me.

And as for UCL?

"G100 grades AAA-AAB with grade A in Mathematics."

and when you say joke do oyu think BTEC is a joke seen as BTEC DDD is the same ucas points as A-level AAA only its more specialised
Reply 12
well a ucas point offer is a joke it doesnt say what subjects you have to study, you could apply for history, drop it, do french maths and biology get AAA and get in, or you could get in on duke of edders or perhaps music grades anything. ucas offfers are rubbish, imperial say what grade you must have in each subject. i know people got into kings clearign for maths with BCC, its rubbish, the only reason its better than imperial at some subjects is because imperial dont run the subject, and if you want to do a non science subject ucl is better. kings drags down the UOL rep.

haha a BTEC is a joke, do you honestly belive all this equivelent lark is for real, its designed to boost your self esteem and keep the kids of the streets, the line is GCSE - A LEVEL (or IB) why do you think oxbridge only accept A level or IB people, no BTEC no GNVQ no "equivelents"

They all suck! :p:

I still find it hilarious that you tried to compare the standard offers for mathematics... without even knowing what they are.
UCL has some pretty horrible departments too, let's not forget, and yet it doesn't suffer from the reputational dry rot which has beset King's for the past 15+ years.I think there's something more to it than mismanagement of funds and rubbish PR.

actually i agree with the fellow above, there all rubbish, oxbridge is the ONLY good university
Reply 18
Well BTEC isnt really a joke is it, Its just more specialised and less exam orientated. Its not there to keep the kids of the street, its there for poeple who dont wana study random subjects in 6th form, people that woudl rather study a specific subject such as Comp Sci

Universities! Oxford and Cambridge. There is no uni called "Oxbridge"
