 right on! oen from kings would be so biased on the topic of their own uni, lol...duh! Aint rocket science:biggrin:

In some respects. However, they're the only ones who have actually taken classes there, so in many ways their opinions are more informed.

Did I mention which school he did badly in? No! so why make that comment. And I've said a million times over I used it to help prove a more than justified comment, so please don't mock

Sorry, I was replying to tktaylor, who appeared to be referring specifically to poor results on secondary school, GCSEs etc.
tktaylor6
ok my mistake there is infact only ONE good university in the country and that is oxford, and yea i mashed up my GCSE's but did well on my a levels and my STEPS....wait didnt einstein fail school?! you pointed that out too...hmmm

If KCL was that great nobody would need to advocate it, it would go without saying. It seems like somebody protests too much.

Does that mean that Imperial College is not that great, since tktaylor6 was advocating it earlier in the thread?

Did tktaylor6 start a thread ranting about ICs rep?
No, but he did use this thread as an opportunity to shamelessly promote IC, which is completely irrelevant to the thread.
Reply 106
well, whats wrong with ranting because of the rep of the uni?

no tktaylor didn't start a thread advocating the goodness of IC (neither did I advocate KCL; I was merely trying to figure out why KCL is garnering such a rep in general) but he did make a fool of himself when IC didn't even play a part in the discussion. he could have just shut up. he didn't contribute to the thread at all. oh yes he did. he provided good entertainment. :p:
tktaylor6
UCL and KINGS both suck, IC is the best and you can tell because it gives higher offers, the higher the offer the better the uni.

oh whatever. You could quite conceivably get an offer of AAB for something like Law, Economics from Oxbridge and AAAA from Warwick.

Nevermind my last post. Yes, he indeed did.

i doubt anybody at kings would end up in rocket science

Similarly I haven't heard of any professional physicists or mathematicians who like to spend their time putting down other universities

No. There is a difference between needing advocation and being advocated. Whether tk said that IC was good or not it stood, everybody knows IC is good. King's actually requires people to say 'it's not as bad as people say, honestly' or such like. Unless people said these things people would just disregard it completely because it would be out of sight and out of mind.
(G)Imperial is overrated, too! Good for specialist subjects and you do get lots of great students going there; but all the students I know that are headed that way got AAB-BBC at A-level, and were rejected from lots of other universities. LSE is sound, however.

KCL, UCL, ICL, are all good universities - stop bickering.

well, obviously, imperial needed advocation too, judging from morningtheft's link.

yes- but lets stop bickering! it was never meant to happen in the first place

Considering that King's falls under the top 10 or top 20 universities, depending on your source, it hardly "needs advocating."
Reply 114
It does. Why do people need to defend it like they so often do? Anyway, you can't make a university wide generalisation, KCL is really good at some stuff but on the whole I don't think it's that great. Top 20 is nothing. You're wasting your time at university unless it is top 10 for your subject or overall.

Kings just doesn't have the same ring to it that Imperial and LSE and UCL does. Say it out loud - Kings, kings. Now say the other three names outloud and see how majestic they sound.
Go tell everyone who has gotten a degree from a non-top 10 university who is now leading a happy, successful life that going to university was a waste and they shouldn't have bothered. I'm sure they'll be surprised to hear it.

Did you read my post? I said "top 10 OR top 20, depending on your source." Strange how you only noticed the "or top 20" part... very strange.

haha ramroff, are you for real?
I would agree that LSE, UCL and ICL are more prestigious universities than King's. In fact they are in my view the most elite unis in the country alongside oxbridge. However King's is also a top 20, Russell group uni. It not being as highly regarded as those 3 does not make it rubbish, other well known unis such as manchester, birmingham and sheffield are not as great compared to those 3 either but they r well good. King's just has the misfortune of being compared to 3 of the top 5 unis in the UK all the time.

Say the name Kings outloud, then say Imperial, and tell me which one you think sounds more majestic
