So upset , annnoyed...bummed out..face problem

Hi there. Im a bit upset. I went to the chemist today because recently i've started getting really bad spots which i;ve never experianced before (im 18). I've been using Clean and Clear for the past few months but its not having much effect so i asked them for someting stronger. Devsestation came when the chemist said he couldn't help (it would be a waste of my money) and that i should see my GP. He mentioned being put on a course that will last 3 to 6 months to stop my acne but i won't see results until like past christmas.

Im so upset and annoyed. Is anyone else a sufferer. What have you been prescribed. Any side effects? Anything that is particulary good. I would say that its not mild but its not severe...midling i suppose.

My sister is going to help em buy make up to cover it tommorow (i have never worn make up before) because its really upset me. Are there any reccomemed brands for acne sufferers? (i heard somethoing abouit nivea range) and where are these make ups availible.

Please help.

Thanks

Oh and on top of that i've got conjunctivitus coming on in one eye and i think its spreading.
I'll go to the doctors about the spots and that tommorow...sucks!

Hmm...depending on what type of skin you've got (and what make-up you buy) wearing it could make the acne worse by clogging your pores etc. But that's only for certain people; hopefully if you apply and remove it correctly you will be alright.

All I can say for now is try not to let it bother you because I have to be off! But I'll get in on this thread later. Sometimes if you go on the pill it also helps spots.

I'm already on the pill (cetazette) if that helps.
My sister will teach me how to do the make up well (shes really good at it).

Oh help.....its all rubbish.
I've got fairly sensitive skins generally but not normally on my face.

Dammit!

Make sure any make up you buy is non-comedogenic or there's a good chance it will clog your pores!

As to your range of treatments, you have a lot open to you. Basically, you need to choose whether to go the prescription treatment route or the over the counter route.

It sounds like your acne is not tooooo severe, so I'd suggest the over the counter route. A good choice would be a Benzoyl Peroxide treatment which works by producing oxygen in your pores and killing the acne bacteria. In the UK you can buy Quinoderm and Quinoderm 5 (slightly weaker solution) from any good chemist, particularly Tesco pharmacy.

Alternatively, go to www.acnesupplies.com to buy "bp gel" a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel solution for acne. I used it for a while and it is very effective. For full details on exactly how to use it go to www.acne.org (very important, as it can be drying in the early stages and so you need to use a good moisturiser)

Good luck clearing up!

I think you shuld do the 3 month course thing. Yeah it takes longer but it'll be worth it. By Christmas you'll have beautiful skin, and if you don't start now, the time will fly and it will be Christmas and you'll have wished that you started way back in September.

I agree with Zhivago, make up is probably not a good idea long term, it will block up your pores and make it worse. Your skin needs to breathe, so plastering it in foundation isn't the best thing to help it.

Other things such as drinking loads or water, to flush out toxins, might help too.

Good Luck sweetie, and remember you're beautiful no matter what! :hugs:

Have you changed your diet at all recently?? I'm not entirely sure, but I think excess greasy/sugary/salty food can cause spots.

It is different for everyone, creams never seemed to do much for me.
The only thing that affected my acne was the seasons; for some reason my acne used to clear up in the Summer, and get worse in the Winter.

So maybe not the make up route. Fair enough.
That was really helpful.

I dont eat much in the way of greasy foods and my sugar intake generally is low.
Would multi vitamins help at all.
Drink lots of water...duely noted.

My friend had awful acne and he couldn't get rid of it at all, and the GP gave him some medication and it cleared up in about 3 months. He'd had it for about 3-4 years so that was quite good really! Have hope! :hugs:

How long have you been on the pill for? My skin got really messed up after 2 months on Microgynon but after 3 months or so it suddenly disappeared and my skin's been clear ever since. Skin is so weird.

I've been on the same pill for like 6 months maybe even a year. I can't have microgynon as apparently it puts me at a heightened risk of having a stroke.
