*thinks hard* There was a lot of live music - a Beatles tribute band, which was really good and a Blues Brothers act which was FAB! I looooved that one. There were funfair things like these cool old fashioned swing boats, a cool flight simulator which I went on twice because it was so much fun, a hypnotist which was really good, a cabaret act, a 'games room' with games consoles and kid's toys like giant jenga and scalectrix a casino, a characaturist, a palm reader, a 'cinema' a babershop quartet (amazing...) a magic act, a comedian, a chocolate fountain.....and probably more that I can't think of right now! Oh yeah - a fireworks display and a piper to bring in the dawn.

I'm disappointed I got the impression it was better than that, we had ginger brown, amongst other things, possibly the best durham band currently but not quite summer ball material. And actully we had quite a few of the same things as you

Oh there was more, I just can't remember all of it!! And everything I mentioned was included in the price. Stop being so negative, Oli!
I may have to make it my personal mission to get into that June Ball one year...
It's easy! All you have to do is disown your own college, live in a cupboard in Moatside for all of your first year, and spend all of your time in Castle and also row for Castle. Then you are treated as a Castleman and get to go to the June Ball! A guy actually did that
Becca said something about Bailey college formals being free since they are more often (for example, Castle has 2 formals a week whilst Trevs has one every fortnight)....however, must just point out that I've never heard of ANY college charging people to go to formal. Trevs certainly don't anyway! OK yeah so you have to sign up for it and if you don't sign up in time then you have to go to early formal (where you go to dinner about 30mins early, don't have to wear smart clothes, but get pretty much the same meal as they'd get in formal)

At the start of the year, I really hated formal, it was everything that I wasn't - I thought it was upper class, pretentious crap! The way everyone had to drink, the way that you had to drink WINE (it seemed that way), the stupid rules about not standing up and that you'd get fined if you did and all that crap. I hated it all. I went to early formal every other week when Trevs had formals....sometimes I ate by myself, simply because I didn't like formal!
Was good as when everyone was at formal I got to do work like an essay or something.
Then I went to a formal, I believe it was near Christmas or maybe it wasn't actually until 2nd term lol and I loved it and realised I was completely wrong! It was just the Freshers Formal that had really put me off, with my freshers rep trying to force me to drink wine, and all these stupid things we were doing. Completely didn't get into it!
