has anyone else had a smear test and found it really painful?
my mum and grandma told me it doesn't hurt, but i found it really painful :frown:

Not personally, but someone I know had a bad experience. I must stress that this is just one person out of all my female friends - it doesn't happen that often, and it definitely shouldn't put you off having the test.

Depends on the nurse IMO.
I had one lovely gentle woman and another, horrible experience.,
They've never managed one on me....as soon as I see the "tools" I freeze...and I mean FREEZE! I know how important they are and I actually gave up sex so I wouldn't feel so bad not having them!

oh well, i'm glad i'm not the only one who's had a painful smear. it's horrible anyway let alone being painful as well!

i had a really painful one, i didn't cry but it sure made my eyes water. The nurse was really good about it, she told me to try and lie down or sit up to see which took the pain away. Neither did, but i knew it was likley to hurt, since Ive had not intercourse yet, so i guess it was my Hymen going

I didn't have a smear before I had sex even though I was the right age because there was no point. Am debating now whether I ought to, or whether I should wait until the new suggested age limit of 25...

my practice didnt seem to care whether or not i was sexually active. Because i had a boyfriend at the time, they said i had to have it. Was kinda stupid arguing with them, i wanted to stay on the pill so i did as i was told and got it out of the way.

I had one hurty one. But it could be worse it a few seconds of pain for the satisfaction of knowing you don't have cancer or other nasties.
