Yep I went to a nice school in Madrid for a few weeks a coupla years ago. Was good fun, doing philosophy in Spanish. Doing French in Spanish was quite a weird experience too :P. Think about Barcelona as well... that's a nice city. I don't really like Sevilla though so I'm kinda biased.

Like, totally, go and do it :P.

just curious - why didn't you like Sevilla?
Anyone been to a Spanish School in Spain?

ohhh so you mean schools as language academies??? mmm I'd go to Madrid so you learn proper Spanish... Sevilla is nice for tourism but I dont know for living...
Reply 9
yeah language academies; I'm only gonna go for a week on my way to cambridge, so I'm after informal!
Reply 10
the problem with Seville is that they will hace accent!!!
Reply 11
I've been to one of these academies in Granada. It was really beautful and fun, but the problem is that most of the other students there don't really speak spanish, so you'll end up speaking English practically all the time (outside of the classroom)
Reply 12
Ahh, I suppose Granada will be accented as well.

Yeah I've done the Spanish school thing in Argentina (talk about accents) and Mexico. I found whether you speak English outside the class depends upon people's skills and where the people are from - like in Mexico there were quite a few Japanese so they knew Spanish far better than English!
Reply 13
mmm why would japanese guys know more Spanish than English?
Reply 14
What happen with accents???
They are soooo nice!!!!!

I love the accent or Argentina, all Sout America and South of Spain!
It is much more sexy!!!

An English boy with a sexy spanish accent!!! hahaha

I am from Granada!

btw why was this thread in the Oxbridge subforum?

I'm hopefully doing a catalan course in barcelona next summer. they're free because no foreigners want to learn it
Reply 17
Do you know that they are trying to make compulsory knowing Catalá to work in Catalunya??? I mean... Catalá Lang+Lit is compulsory at college... but... NOT BEEN ABLE TO HAVE A JOB DUE TO NOT KNOWING CATALÁ?! That's ridiculous... although it's happening right now although not officially...

btw how did you interview go? Did you like Queens'?

Sevillas a nice city, one thing though it gets very, very hot there - so make sure u take an ample supply of sun tan lotion with ya.

Um, i went to spanish school for 2 years in Valencia (among other places) which is a great city on the Costa del Sol. Its relatively unknown to foreigners, even though it is Spains 3rd largest city. May be an option?

I would definately recommend going to the Costa del Sol if you are going. Barcelona would probably be your best bet, very nice city and quite a lot of foreigners. Only thing I would mention about Barcelona is the people that live in that area of Spain can be quite hostile to outsiders.

If you go to Madrid DON'T take Spanish lessons at Club de Espanol / Club Ivy (it's the same thing). They've really fleeced me. I gave them 95 euros, they put me in completely the wrong level and when I asked to change they said there was nothing else when I was available.
I took four classes, learnt absolutely nothing and had 95 euros conned out of me.
CHOOSE YOUR SCHOOL CAREFULLY!!!
