anyway. my derma wants me to stop it in Oct- only 4 months of treatment. i thought it took 6 months to clear acne. is he right? or shoudl i keep takng it?

nice second post.
I went on for eight months and they went. Now at 22 I get one or two occasionally when I am under the weather.

Do did come back though when I was 21, I went back on for a while. I started the stuff at 18. When it kicks in you can see all the horrible scars left over.

I tried everything. I had horrific acne on my back [it was AWFUL].

Roaccutane was the only thing that cleared it all up completely, and several sunbed sessions [advised by my dermatologist].

Luckily I didn't scratch, I resisted, hence I'm not covered in scars.
Has anyone else here had any problems with erythomyocin? [probs mis-spelt]. I'm a bit concerned about what I'm actually being given... I mean it seems quite serious to have antibioitics with so many side-effects.

lol. chill out dude. thats a minor drug. I doubt you'll get many side effects.

Anyway, i think its used for loads of things, not just acne. ie. you're probably ok

Yeah its just the huge list of things it interacts with. Kinda making me wonder if I should even be messing with it- I mean I'm only 18!

Erythromycin is prescribed for many conditions. It is a medium-strength drug.

I tried this for acne, and it didn't work.

ALL antibiotics have MANY possible side-effects, it's just that the company who make Erythromycin probably like to be very thorough in their information. Other pharmaceutical companies aren't so fussy about telling the patient all.

Seriously mate, all the stuff on the leaflets is overhyped. The drug companies are just covering their backs. Erythromycin isn't that big a deal (obviously dependant on the dose)

They say you *can* get a stomach ulcer from taking to much of it, but thats only in the long-term, and is v. rare anyway

meh im on oxytetracycline but im really lazy and always forget to take it :s: evcery now ad then spots get quite bad and i have a fit of drinking a million glases of water a day and doubling my antibiotics dosage lol!

my doc seems uite happy to giveme a repeat prescription whenever so it's cool.

my spots aren't TOO bad any more although i do have a few scars - when i was 15/16 i didn't want ot make a big deal out of them and owuldnt go ot the doctor about it but if they were like they were then now I wouldn't hesitate ot go on roaccutane

Well i think mine trumps all, Having Taken Erthromycin and tetracycline and another one which i dont know the name of i am on Roaccutane, Serius Vitiman A dosage and the side effects on it are awesome but after inly 2 weeks they are looking so so much better.

don't worry about erythomycin it almost def wont do you any harm. However it might not clear up your acne, i took it, and then oxytetracyclin. Both didn't work. It was only after taking roaccutane for about 8 months that mine went away, but it has some crap side effects. Having said that im glad i did it all cos now my skin's much better!

what are the side effects people have experienced with roacC?

Been on Oxytetracycline, Erythromycin, Roaccutane for 10 months but couldn't stay on it because lipid levels were getting a little dangerous so now I'm using a erythromycin and istotretinoin based topical cream.
And keep on with the treatment, between Oxytetracycline and Erythromycin I was on them for around 2/3 years!

EDIT: Accutane side-effects I got:
VERY dry skin and lips
Night vision greatly improved
A slight increase in depression (though it runs in family anyway).

night vision increae eh? how bizzarre!

the dry skin and lips thing does sound nasty though - does it go away after you stop the roac?

also do your spots stay cleared once u go off roacc?

im not considering it at the mo my spots are nowere near bad enough but if they wereto get worse i would

They didn't clear on the Roacc! But mine is a pretty stubborn case.....
And not really, ever heard of carrots make you see in the dark? it's the vitamin A in them, Roacc is based on Retinol which = Vitamin A.
But Roaccutane usually does kill most spots in 4-6 months....
