Now I know this may sound like a silly post, but I have been hearing terms such as 'fresh meat' or 'meat market' in terms of what 2nd and even 3rd years (guys in particular) think of new freshers. So should should I be expecting to see lots of 2nd and 3rd years trying to take advantage of us poor 'innocent' freshers? Or is this just a slight exaggeration of the truth?!
This is all just part of my preparation for uni next week - I wanna have it all covered!

LOOOOL, it is kinda true, but the 2nd/3rd year guys who usually say this and try and take advantage of the freshers usually fair, as they dont know how 2 talk 2 girls properly, but the ones that do........well....u'll be hearing alot of 'spitroasting' stories lol
We're all evil

They can't take advantage of you if you don't let them, if you get me. Don't say "Yes" when they say "Want to come back to my place and... see my etchings?".
The above from catski is exactly what I was about to say, only you can decide how it happens, don't let yourself get involved in something you don't want to

Sod worrying about 2nd year lads... you've got me in my 3rd year to worry about lol. Seriously though, this is the first Freshers Week where I have been genuinely free and single and I've got a lot of catching up to do!

Joking apart, no you don't need to be worried. 2nd and 3rd years don't have strikingly better chat up lines, they don't look hugely different, and they certainly don't on average have more money to lavish on you in the form of alcohol. However in many cases, they do have double beds... :p:

You should all be aware, but only in the fact that we're all mature and knowledgeable in the ways of uni life.
come back to mine and see my etchings???

must use that one lol!
every year when i am in flat partys some cocky jumped up second or third year boys come in.....think their all big and special see me chatting to a fresher girl and think they will try and embarress me by mocking me (thinking i'm a fresher).

One year...and i can't remember the full conversation as i was bladdered....this lad was sat a few metres off trying to drop comments that she needed to ditch the fresher and get a 'real man'......she took my hand leading me out to the bedroom and said as she walked past 'just taking my real man to bed then being two years above you and all'.

Firstly we didnt do anything...but top marks to that girl for winding him up what a gem she was.... and what a nob he was. It happens every year and i'll take great pride in saying i've graduated after a nice 4yrs and now signing up for another 4.

A few things I've noticed over the years:

fresher's stand out like a saw thumb. Firstly, they always walk around in about 5,6,7,8's. Secondly, they wear their best clobber for going to crummie student digs. Thirdly, they buy all the books on their reading lists. Fourthly, they accept drinks from strangers in bars and get drunk far too easily.

The main thing is to be safe kids, I know it's easy to get into all that peer pressure stuff and lose your way a bit being away from home and all but just slow down a bit. Noone likes show-offs. Stick together and don't do stupid things like getting into a random's car, or take a free drink. you've been warned.
