Apart from thr possible network bill, are there any other things? E.g insurance?
Also, in self-catered...what exactly does 'fuel charges' over and how much roughly does it cost per month?
In halls I think there is a Junior Common Room fee, of about £50, which goes towards things like the bar, and also the surety fee which if your hall doesn't cause damage, will be refunded in full or in part.
I know that last year Sorby Hall residents didn't recieve any refund, and after stories I've heard with some of my collegues in Sorby, they are on track not to get any back again !
It really depends on your personal needs and what course you are doing because its more convenient to get halls near your building rather than on the other side of town.
Going to to law. I want a nice place to stay with en-suite facilities. Wouldn't mind if it had a nice lounge. Any suggestions? How mush is it going to eat my account?

Tapton, is probably most suitable in terms of location relative to Law, but is isolated:
En-suite: £3388.59 (31 weeks)
Halifax, in Endcliffe Vale (nice area), £4075.64 (40 Weeks)
Earnshaw (nice area, but right next to Sorby), £3668.66 Sorby (nice area, ugly looking building): £3668.66 Ranmoor (nice place, great building, little further out): £3668.66 Stephenson (nice area, lovely looking building): £3668.66
The above 4 are for 31 weeks + 7 weeks of Room Only.
(Fees are correct for 2003/4 academic year, all of which include utilities, and interior network telephones in rooms).
In terms of nice lounges, most Halls have decently sized JCRs/TV Rooms (except Sorby's which is now used at Sorby Computing Services/Sorby IT Suite.)
But when you get your departmental invitation to a post-application open day, (around Feb/March) you will get shown around one of the halls, probably Ranmoor House Hall, or in the event of self-catered probably Endcliffe Vale Flats, and then Goodwin Sports facilities, along with the Union building, sometime after the tour around your department.

Attended in December. I believe I went on a tour of Ranmoor, all I could remeber where the large windows in the rooms. But that was the only halls that we went on a tour of, we saw the other buildings...on a bus....I do remeber on that looked out of place, it was all red and the archectiture was suppose to be unique or something.
Atm there's only one en suite place for self-catering, but I contacted the uni and they said they're putting more en suites in old self catering flats...does anybody know where these are?
