This may be a really silly question, but if you are made an offer of deferred entry (i.e. entry 2005), and you narrowly miss out on the grades when you get your results in August 2004, would they allow you to retake during the gap year or would they just straight away reject you??

No, the same rules apply. They might not straight away reject you though - like non-deferred applicants it depends on how much you missed the grade by so it's up to the college if they still want you or not - and of course there's the summer pool.
