Try getting a job where you know other youths might work. I reckon that'll be the best thing to do.

yeah if you work in a bar or somewhere where lots of students work its often quite sociable and good for getting to know new people....and of course if you're really smooth you can chat up girls over the bar and impress them with your pint pulling skills!
if you're into football you could try joining a five-a-side team or something like that, or any other sports club really...
if you know other people who are staying at home try and meet up and go out with them, even if you don't know each other that well you'll probably be in the same boat and old school cliques quickly get forgotten once you've left.
basically i think all you need to do is be proactive - you need to make some kind of effort cos people/new friends are unlikely to come to you so you have to go out and find them....might be a bit difficult but it'll be worth the bother!

Work, as everyone else pointed out.

Go to the gym or join a soccer team or something. That way you'll make some guy friends, and when you go out with them you'll meet their friends...and girls.

gap year - best idea in the whole world ever. I knew i wanted a year off, but wasnt sure what to do. eventually went to whistler, became a lifty and snowboarded every day for 6 months. You will have the time of your life and meet amazing people. everyone is in the same boat, dont worry darlin. what are you thinking of doing with your time off?
