I think I may have a serious problem, maybe a mental illness of some kind, ever since I was a little kid I dreamed of becoming the centre of attention, and getting a lot of empathy, in a way it was like a life long goal, I went through a lot of hard times in childhood, and when I was 13, around about march last year, I finally decided to tell someone about a hard situation I was going through, I told someone I trusted, someone who was almost like a big sister to me, and I told her, and she prayed for me (we're a Christian community) and I didn't feel better because we'd prayed, but because she cared, she gave me some attention, after that things got serious. Now that I knew I COULD get attention if I tried, there was no stopping me, I went on a Christian camp I go to, and came up with this great story, that could easily be true based on the facts, and I got a lot of attention there, from it, but I was only using mind problems to get attention. Then it came to me, the B2MPS2ASCOA04 (Which is the code I use for basically The barnstaple 2 2004 master plan), which revolves around the same camp I got attention from last year, I plan to get a greater deal of it this year, I like using Barnstaple, because its 3 hours away from my parents, and one of the things about my need, is that if I get any attention from my parents, I hate it intensly, it has to be mainly from girls, over 16, under 25, who already know me a good deal, can often act like a big sister to me, and for some reason they have to br pretty, in my opinion. Anyway, the plan I came up with, is, with the help of an accomplice, during this game we play called Fox and Ducks, which is in the middle of the night, on a playing field, a fairly dangerous game, to be found by who I call the 'victim' which is the person I want to recieve the attention and empathy from, they are to find me lying unconcious on the ground, with a broken leg, so that I need to be taked to hospital, by them, and plans for it are already fully underway, yet the camp is not till the summer, I've done small cases of self-harm before (sprained my ankle, tried to break my arm) but it never really worked, with this much planning I should get the attention and empathy I need, but I'm not sure if that will stop me, it might even make me more ambitious, I think I have a mental illness, after watching Holby City yesterday, it was an old episode, about a lady with something like Munchaiser syndrome, who poisoned her daughter to get herself attention, I think I have something similar to that, but I want to know what it is, and how to make it go away. Also, one other detail is that my three main 'victims' which are the people I'd most like to recieve the attention and empathy from, are Christine Stephen-Daly, (actress from casualty) Marg Helgenberger (actress from CSI) and Lucy Harlow, who goes to "The Pulse", and they all have shortish blonde hair, which I don't, and I'm not sure why that is. I'm only 14, and I don't want this haunting me my whole life, I found this site through a search on Google, trying to find out exactly what is wrong with me, if you find out, then I'm begging you, PLEASE e-mail me at [email protected] with you diagnosis.
Thankyou for reading this!

munchuasans byproxy, i knew some1 just like u, she made things up to get attention all i did was make her realise that she was lying after that she never did it to me anymore. obviously she didnt stop and she probably never will do, the first step is recognising ur problem and uve already proved u can do that. everybody likes abit of attention every now and again its when u start to make it ur life ambition that it becomes a problem, when did u realise there was something wrong?? also what do u mean by victims??

it sounds like a bit of a dilema u got there. I know a couple of chicks that harm themselves by either cuttin there wrist or hurting themselves and i have never known what to say to them because i always get the answer u dont know what it is like....that they cant help it. I think the only cure is professional help! Maybe a doctor or summin. I hate seeing chicks hurting themselves....nothing hurts me more!! Sorry i couldn't be more help!

i wanted to find out if self harm is just something we do out of childish stupidity or if there really is a deeper meaning. what does every1 else think?
Attention seeking. These people desire attention at any cost, and see self-harm as the means to attain it.

Youve been there yourself? You know what it is like then? So from that statement you would be saying you have self harmed, and did it purely for attention?

what, that people do it purely for attention? I agree, some do. But some don't. And unless you've been there yourself, i don't think you can make a statement like that

I think I may have a serious problem, maybe a mental illness of some kind,
Please, if you're serious about getting help, go to a doctor! They will probably refer you to a specialist, but going to your GP to talk it over should be your first step. The people on this forum are very nice and well-meaning, but none of us are experts in mental illness (correct me if I'm wrong...). You should see a professional who can give you the help you need.

Good luck!

Yes I can. You don't need to be in a situation to understand it. Ever heard of a discipline called psychiatry?

Are you agreeing or disagreeing????
I take personal harm very seriously as i explained earlier in this thread.....but attention seeking is worse because there are people who would pyhsically hurt themselves just for someone to care for them!
I also know chicks that do it just for the attention aswell...so i've seen both sides and i dont know....i cant understand what would drive people to do that. Its to much for my head because i could never harm myself...i couldn't have a good enough reason to! If that makes any sense?!

How can people do it for attention when some people never tell a soul about it?

Look, if they do it to show off, then it is attention seeking. If not, then they're compensating for inner pain.

I was responding to Kita's comment to Mr.White "what, that people do it purely for attention? I agree, some do. But some don't. And unless you've been there yourself, i don't think you can make a statement like that"

which seems to say that if you havn't experienced something you can't comment.

I disagreed by bring in the historian who's an expert on Agincourt but who nevertheless wasn't actually there.
