no. you only need one if you want to use it to watch TV

Reply 5

Lmao, this is exactly the line I'm taking

I'll have a tv.... but just for console and dvd use.

Dont watch much tv anyway, I'll just use it for the odd program, lol

Reply 6

no. but make sure it isnt tuned in, or next to an aeriel because if it does get checked you gotta make it obvious your not using it as a tv.

Do I need a licence?

If you use a TV or any other device to receive or record TV programmes (for example, a VCR, set-top box, DVD recorder or PC with a broadcast card) - you need a TV Licence. You are required by law to have one.

The significant words here of course being use .. to receive , so if you can prove you don't use it for that purpose, you should be fine.

However, to be doubly safe, you may want to invest in a PC monitor instead - I think most consoles can do that.

works both ways - they should have to prove your using it to watch TV. and if you dont have an aerial connected, then there aint much chance of you watchin TV

Reply 10

No- just make sure that it is not tuned in to any channels.

Reply 11

Why not make sure its tuned in?

You do know you dont legally have to let anyone into your home without a warrent yea?

TV guy comes knocking:

Are you watching TV?

No.

Oh... Okay, can I come in and check?

No.

Oh... Okay.

Goodbye.

hmmm.... my bf was telling me the other day how he got into trouble for not having a tv license at a flat he lived in. He only used the tv for games... the tv people came round, had a bit of a go, but he never did pay them any money...

Reply 13

Anything capable of recieving television channels means you have to have a TV license. In short, yes you do. I think that even goes for PC monitors, not sure though...

They need a court order to legally search your house without permission... and a police officer with them to carry it out.

Reply 16

i think you only pay license fee to watch bbc, if u watch itv and channel 4 i think tis ok, and games consoles do not need television licenes, and if you are thinking of using free veiw then yeah you have to have a license fee.
