Yeah St. Annes is miles away from the uni. The only way you could really find yourself there is if you went to the goosefair or something and get lost...not a good idea - id get a taxi

not true a mate of mine had a machete in his face last week....i live there though but it can be a bit scary. Use yer common sense ie taxi to your house late at night etc

BLIMEY  , what time of day and which road in Lenton was this on mate?

I went to visit a friend in Lenton last year in who lived in Castle Boulevard and I got the impression of that it was a fairly safe palce (by Nottingham standards). However, I didn't like the look of those high-rise flats near Jacksons on the Lenton Boulevard.

on the road from derby road to ilkeston road (Lenton Boulevard)..he then got frog marched for about ten minutes to the nearest cash machine. Moral of the story is "dont get drunk and wonder around nottingham by your self at night!"

Yay, I've lived in lovely areas all my life, (although I did live in a squat once, when I was 15, but thats another story.) so this will be a right change.

Nottingham will prepare me for living in South America. (Its my new place that I'm going to move to, I've now decided against Australia) Its so much fun being a girl... paranoia.

Where do you want to move to in South America? xx

No idea yet. I need to learn spannish first!! Places like venezuela and brazil sound fun (except id need portuguese for brazil)

I watched the motorcycle diaries... it changed my life a bit. I dont want to be stuck in England for my whole life. I want to be a citizen of the world!!

I've heard those high rises are NTU accomodation. They certainly seemed quite empty when I walked by them last week, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. And your mate lives on the busier end of Lenton Boulevard furthest away from Radford which is probably about as safe as it gets in Lenton. The part of Lenton Boulevard between Ilkeston and Derby Roads is lined with very large old buildings that are obviously owned by various businesses; at night there'll be few people around there so that's probably why the poor guy got mugged, he was alone at night on a deserted street. Just use a bit of common sense and you'll be fine.
I'm staying in SPC in Radford n i've heard its one of the worst places 2 be. But i've decided i'm not gonna panic. I'm just gonna take necessary precautions and use my common sense. Dont worry Quasimodo 99.9% of ppl living in these areas are fine. Just keep ure wits about u n i'm sure u'll be ok.

Please don't listen to Nubian Queen. If you want to know about the crime in St Ann's, look at the BBC News website.

I do think Nubian Queen has got the right idea about getting on with it and keeping your wits about you. You cant completely hide from these people and stay in your house all day so you might as well do what you can to keep yourself safe.

Although I agree that if you have a choice, not to live in an area such as St Ann's.
hmmm ... lenton seems safe to me but you get a few dodgy folki hanging around outside that texaco garage, so if ur walking past it at night make sure you run like the clappers if a dodgy bloke is standing there

"Nottinghamshire Police, who have more than 100 officers hunting the killer, said Danielle was shot at about 0030 BST on Saturday in the St Ann's area of the city."

"Shane Miller, 18, was stabbed and beaten at his home on Jedburgh Walk in St Ann's, Nottingham on 3 January."

"The shooting happened near the Woodborough pub on the junction between Woodborough Road and Manning Street at 2330 GMT on Sunday in St Ann's."

"The schoolboy was shot in the St Ann's area of the city."

four shootings with article proof..

what i really want to know is why arent the british police people increasing patrols in that area!? serve and protect serve and protect!

Yes but what is the proportion of crime compared to the amount of ppl living there! This is y the news is called news. They will never say 'today in nottingham someone returned a lost purse' or 'everything was fine today'. We have areas in Sheffield that are supposed 2 be really bad but i've been to those places before at night and have been fine. N so have the many ppl who have been in St Ann's and had nothing happen to them. This seems a bit like scaremongering to me. As i said before just do things that u would normally do anywhere like not being out at night alone, not having mobile phones on display etc. I really am sure that u will be fine.

I AM A BIT CONFUSED RIGHT NOW! I THOUGHT LENTON IS A POPULAR STUDENT AREA! SO IT SHOULD BE A LOT SAFER THAN ST. ANNS RIGHT? And once again THANK YOU for all your replies.

i ve two more possible accommdations right now. one in Meadows one in Lenton, what would you suggest (safety reasons as well as supermarkets, bus routes)

THANK YOU GUYS SO FAR !!!!!!

OK Guys and Gals lets get this topic settled.

Basically Lenton is a student area and as with most student areas around the country it is a bit rougher than your average street. Probably 75% of the houses are student houses. If you are sensible you will be ok.

St. Annes is not a student area. It is a place where there is very high crime, violent crime, drug issues etc. Students do not really live there unless they can help it....I do not know any students that live there (Where as i know a lot that live in Lenton which is where i am living now).

This is completely wrong. It is a completely different league to Lenton.

If you go into st. annes even during the day you are probably being a bit stupid coz it is dangerous
