Reputation wise Imperial is more internationally renowned, and as one of the top four Maths departments in the country (along with Oxbridge and Warwick). But Imperial has a 3:1 male:female ratio! This turned my mate towards UCL despite Imperial having a stronger Medical department.

Lol That's one of the most pathetic things I've heard to avoid going to a certain uni just because there aren't enough girls. He's clearly going to his uni for all the RIGHT reasons....not

I know all about London man! Trouble is he ain't the type to go out and meet girls anyway, he just wants to look and admire the rasmalai. Would be much easier in a UCL lecture room than an Imperial one methinks...

That's just a jokey reason of course! He's a bit more level-headed than that! His choice is Imperial or UCL, so far he has only the offer from UCL (and an easy one at that) and I think he liked UCL more when he went to the interview.

UCL has a better atmosphere (more friendly and they don't drive u as hard), the people are also more diverse since u also have non-science students studying there......... Imperial has a better reputation

Although youd probly have a great time at both, id say youd probably have a better 3/4 years at UCL, but would reap the rewards after graduation more so from imperial. Personally id probably go for imperial, like i said youll proably have a great time at both.

Having been to both I would say UCL anyday - a much better support structure in place.
Incidently Imperial isn't a top-ten rated maths dept. according to the Guardian 2003.
Also UCL rugby is daddy. IC can't play for ****.

People don't just go to University because of the league tables and its reputation

WTF? when in that quote did I ever say they did? The guy was talking about 3:1 ratio of male to female at IC and saying his mate went to UCL cuz of that. For once read the posts BEFORE you open that hole in your face.

I think that the environment is a factor. you dont go to uni just to study. if i could go to two unis of similar standards and one had hardly any blokes it would put me off it.

but you know, if its in a big city like london and there isn't that much of the opposite sex (or same sex depending on what u go for !!) around in the uni, well there will be loads outside the uni! With somewhere in the middle of the countryside you might be a bit limited, but in a big city you can explore outside the college

Yes but when you are in uni you mainly socialise in uni areas with uni people. Or at least in my experience.
