My old uni advised students to study 2 hours for each hour of classes (per week). The average student had 15 hours of classes, which would require 30 hours of studying. I have never spent more than 2-3 hours a week studying, excluding when I was writing papers shortly before finals week. I think LSE is trying to cover its bases, so they can tell anyone who fails that the reason is that they didn't study hard enough.
Well, I won't be doing more than or (I Hope) less than 2 hours a day; I think that's reasonable?
I think that's quite reasonable. The only time when that might not be enough is when essays are due (I think most classes require 2-3 short essays) and obviously before the finals.

2-3 hours of studying per week is a lot?
Great, so i'll take your word for it - 2 hours is enough except when essays or exams are due, in which case i'll up it to four hours.
And no, of course 2-3 hours a week is not a lot (not everyone works a little and gets a lot, genius), I meant 30 hours a week is a lot!

I wouldn't be so optimistic about essay and exam time. You'd be surprised how long it takes to write a decent essay on a topic you couldn't care less about. I was spending a good 6 hours a day writing essays in my final 2-3 weeks of classes, and I write them pretty quickly.

I honestly don't know anyone who actually took that advice.
