LIPA Dilemma

I've read a few posts about this Uni, but i am still really unsure about the selection process. I really want to do the BA Hons 3 yrs Performing Arts Acting degree but, am i good enough? I certainly big headedly used to think i was... but now after reading other peoples qualifications here there and everywhere am wondering if i've been a fool....

I have had singing lessons for about a year but they're irregular cuz she goes off on the sick... Been performing in ameteur theatre since i was about four, i guess dancing is my weakest point but iv done some semi-pro stuff with really tough dance routines in it and i've done it eventually! I think i've got a strong personality and am an extremely hard worker when im doing something im passionate about...

if i base my personal statement around that.. you think maybe i'll get an interview?? If not for LIPA, where else should i apply to do similar courses? Definately acting ones though, not drama!! And if i get an interview for LIPA, what can i expect from it (CALLING ALL CURRENT LIPA STUDENTS!! LOL!)

Looking for sept. 2006 entry!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!!

xxxx

You won't know if you're good enough unless you try!
What kinda course are you looking for elsewhere?

Have you considered changing your teacher then, so you get regular lessons?

I chose LIPA as one of my UCAS choices. Got invited to an audition day for exactly what you want to do, Perf Arts Acting. There were about 70 of us and this was just one day of auditions out of a couple of weeks I think - so competition is tough. Anyway in the morning we did workshop stuff, games etc and then did individual auditions with tutors where we had to recite 2 audition pieces and sing a song.

After a break for lunch all 70 of us were told which 15 or so would go through to the afternoon. I got through to the afternoon and again this was workshops, games and finally doing our audition pieces again but this time infront of everyone. It was nothing to worry about and all good fun. They stressed that only a few people out of the 15 would get in. I'm guessing they maybe took 4 from our day and 3 or 4 from all the other audition dates. I didn't get in and am startin Manchester next week. I'm actually glad now because I don't necessarily want to do just acting, but being honest I was gutted at the time.

I'd say its definately worth a shot and if acting is what you definately want to do - go for it. Only one thing to remember is the 'drama school' status that Lipa lacks and how it is not an accreditted drama school. It doesn't necessarily have the same prestige as places like Central, Rada etc.

It's not accreditted? That tends to be a bad thing!
I have actually heard that it's reputation isn't great.
Just a quick note to say that the acting course is accreditted although it hasn't always been the case. I'm currently at LIPA and it's absolutely great here, there is so much talent that it makes me cringe when I read stuff about it not being good. Everyone gets the opportunity to do everything. I'm a dancer and the course involves singing and acting too and if you want to try and do something else like music you can. It's very hard to get in at LIPA and it seems that they like to take very different people with varying strengths and weaknesses. If you hate your course you can be transferred to a different uni and go into say the second year if you have finished the first. Mark Featherstone-Witty actually said that statistically LIPA is three times harder to get into then both Oxford and Cambridge. I urge that you do audition or at least come to an open day, don't worry about your qualifications, they mean nothing if you don't have the drive the determination and the talent. LIPA is a very good place and the teaching staff are excellent you learn so much not only from them but from the students.
