AVCE business, discrimination?

hey people a friend of mine does AVCE Business which he is continuing on to the full a-level. Anyway the rest of his subjects are normal A-levels. he did 4 AS's and now does three subjects for a-levels (one of which is avce business)

well he is very worried that he may be discriminated by lots of universities for doing the AVCE, he would of quit however he got a good grade, his other AS grades are quite good too. Also i hav forgot to mention that the school he and i attend only does "avce" for business.

even though the school has it as compulsory will he be discriminated for doing AVCE Business?

hey king i too do avce double business, i know what you mean about this, i too am very worried by this prospect howver, i have spoke to numerous people career advisors, key stage 5 technicians etc. and they have told me about the succes stories of people getting v far with this qualification! that reassured me! i got A*'s and A's at GCSE so do want to show my academic ability in sixth form therefore was afraid that i wouldnt due to my choice however, if u check entry requirements to universities they do accept this qualification combined with other Alevels i do this with Geography along with philosophy and ethics...hope i have helped! i would love to speak to your friend maybe we could help each other xxxx

hi
i did AVCE double award business AS RE & AS sociology two years ago now and i also thought i would have problems getting in2 uni i found emailin unis was best. But tbh i applied to do business studies at 6 unis and they were quite good uni's and i got accepted by all of them. I am now strating my second year of a degree course in straight business studies.
So basically i dont think there is any discrimination of AVCE business.

I checked on the UCAS course search for the business studies (N100) course in Manchester as an example. According to the site, it says double award is accepted. It says 'One double award required plus one A level at grades AAB-ABB.'

For proof, go to this website http://search.ucas.co.uk/cgi-bin/hsrun/search/search/search.hjx;start=search.HsSearch.run?y=2006 . Under 'institution', select 'university of manchester'. Click 'search'. Then scroll down and click on 'business studies'. Click on 'entry profile', then scroll down to the section 'What are the entry requirements?', then click 'English, Welsh and Northern Irish Qualifications'. Lastly, scroll down to 'AVCE double award'.

You could do the same thing for the other universities that you are interested. Alternatively, you can look on the individual univeristy websites.

You might find the subject search useful later on: http://search.ucas.co.uk/cgi-bin/hsrun/search/search/search.hjx;start=search.HsKeywordSearch.run?y=2006

I'm sure you will still get accepted when you get the correct grades. You might want to do some work experience or something like that if you are really worried that you might not get an offer, or due to competition. To get more information, I guess you could contact the universities you are interested in.

If i remember rightly dont uni's look for things on your personal statemnet such as volunteering and being members of clubs etc cos they show you can work as team or something like that?

Yes, universities look at the personal statement, extra-curricular, clubs, experience (if any), duke of edinburgh, etc... They also look at the teacher's reference too. Besides, the whole UCAS application form is considered (qualifications, personal statement, and teacher's reference, and special circumstances).

fer business, Manchester Met, is rated as excellent

never pay to much attention to league tables. I went to the Open day at Queens Belfast fer business and i was more impressed with what i seen in manchester met. than what was on offer in queens despite it is way up the top end of the table.

That is correct.

chrissy - just look at the course content of the universities you are interested, and compare them to see which one appeals to you more. Take into consideration the assessment methods too.

look at the individual university requirements as others have stated. i did avce business and a level law and was accepted by all of my chosen universities. i am starting a law degree at city university on monday.

what other universities did you apply to ?

well thankyou all my friend will get sum more sleep tonight thats for sure, lol. ok now he says he wants to do economics BA or bsc, he is doin economics, avce business, sociology= AAC (c in economics) tht biology he dropped was a grade D which is not good.

anyway does he stand a chance of getin into ba economics? with those subjects and grades?

also on the ucas form he has a dilema he has done 3 units so far in avce so on the ucas form do you put that under "asvce" bearing in mind he is continuing it on. or does he put it under AVCE 6 units (but doesn't place a grade?)
