I don't think "depressing" is the right word. I don't think any artist sets out to deliberately depress it's audience. But I don't think music always has to be uplifting and happy to be good. There's a time and place for something mellow, chilled and relaxing.
I'm personally expecting it to be rock and indie all the way in Bristol. Not that that prospect depresses me much. I don't hate indie at all. And tbh, i'm expecting most of the dance scene in Bristol not to be my kind of thing. Whereas i'll be looking for a bit of Trance and House (hard or otherwise), i reckon most places and events are gonna be for drum & bass/jungle heads. So, i'm hardly expecting Bristol to be a musical wonderland (for myself anyway) but my tastes are broad enough for me to enjoy myself all the same.
There's nowhere near as much rock and indie as you'd expect, only a couple of major indie nights a week (Propaganda and Ramshackle, which is cack anyway). It's mainly urban music, particularly drum and bass, and there's quite a lot of cheesy stuff too (Wedgie's being the main culprit)
