I think it's like 99% basically - or I heard something about it being one in every hundred women that use it per year - some stupidly small number like that!! :p:

It's really safe, unless you forget it, then you have to use other methods for 7 days. But otherwise, it's great! I advise girls to go on it even if they aren't having sex, just so more convienent.

The safest is to combine the pill with condoms.

Pill and condoms could be a good idea..but also the pill would be good as i wouldn't have to wear one...which is why im all for it...Aswell as the reducing the risk of pregnancy...

If you are willing to live with that 1% risk is up to you. I asume you both have been tested for STDs...

As long as you remember to take the pill properly (ie. at the same sort of time every day) it's something like 99% safe, which is the same as condoms (if you use them properly)...you do have to make sure that if you do forget to take a pill that you use other contraception cos you won't be covered for a week......plus its just sooooo conveniant being able to choose when you have periods and being able to skip them when you want! and its free (unlike condoms which are soooo expensive!)
its means you can afford to be a bit more spontaneous, using the pill and condoms together is the best way cos it does mean u can't get std's and are even more unlikely to get pregnant, but if you are on the pill it does mean u don't have to worry so much if you get carried away ( ) or if the condom breaks etc!

Condoms aren't as effective as the pill for preventing pregnancy (but of course provide STI protection where the pill does not).

safe but unless u want a fat girlfriend try implanon ( a rod inserted in her arm, lasts 3 years ) because i gan almost guarantee she'll gain weight.

people can gain on implanon too, annie. messing with hormones in most ways can make the weight fluctuate.

Indeed. A lot of the bodily workings are controlled by hormones.

i don't think i really did put on weight when i started taking the pill, nothing really noticeable anyways...it did make my boobs bigger tho!

Reply 12

the pill isnt 100% effective and thus leads to over 100,000 unwanted preganancies a year!

same! BUT you have to make sure you take it correctly. i missed one recently and had a slight scare, but it was fine. I have two alarms set now!

i didn't gain a lot of weight when i went on the pill...but like someone said before me, my boobs went a bit haywire and i now have a rack that gets complimented highly...

i've been okay on it, but i worry about longterm risks. what can you do when you have the whole debate of whether to be safe, or whether to be worried about long term damage

hiya, iv been on the pill since i was 12 (not for contraception at that age, to get rid of nasty period pain!) and have been on many different types. The pill is effective if you take it correctly, the mini pill is harder to take because you have to take it within a two hour time frame everyday. Lots of things can effect the pill, if your gf vomits, or has upset stomach, or is on certain medications it will not work properly.

I am currently on the depo provera shot which i find easier than the pill. It is a single hormone so is the same as the mini pill which has less side effects than the combined pill. I suffer from migranes so cannot take the combined pill. I have a shot every 3 months (completely painless) and im protected, no need to remember a pill everyday. It is more effective than the pill at 99.9% because there is less likely to be a user error. If your gf wants to get hormonal birth control, i suggest she goes to see her nurse to discuss different methods to find whats right for her.

I would recommend using condoms along side hormonal BC, you can never be too carefull. Some one said they were expensive, however you should be able to get them for free from the young persons information centre, doctors surgery etc.

Iv been on the pill for nearly a year and went on it both to regulate my periods and for contraception. Im excellent at taking it at the same time everyday although I can take it within a twelve hour time frame and still be protected. My boyfriend is clear of STD's and I have no need to get tested as he is the only 1 iv ever slept with without the use of a condom. Personally neither me or my boyfriend like usin condoms and only do if im on medication that effects it or have been ill etc.

Get your gf to go see her doctor/nurse to talk through what the best methods for her would be.

Just to point out - the mini pill has a three hour time frame, apart from Cerazette, the newest and only third-generation mini pill, which has recently had approval for a twelve hour time frame, like the combined pill.
