Do something you enjoy rather than something that pays well. Engineering and Computing are both good careers to pursue and are often linked one way or another.

Go for something you enjoy, also VERY important to make good contacts. Sometimes it's who you know, not what you know. So start begging friends with people in high power  (I have a few professor friends at Gresham College already!)

Money money money money MONEYYYYYYYYY (like that song)

However isn't engineering going to be a more steady career choice compared to computing?

Either way, it depends how many promotions you get, doesn't it? Do whatever you enjoy and you're more likely to get promoted to that level, rather than just drop out. If you get onto either of those pay brackets at all, you're loaded and have nothing to complain about, so go for the subject you enjoy.
