Books for before mechanical engineering course Watch

I'm looking to take a degree in mechanical engineering and I need to know interesting but accessible books for someone who's just finished year 12.

I want to put these books in my personal statement, so they should be impressive to universities and it would be great if they gave a primer for some of the topics covered in the degree.

Anyone who knows any such books, it would be awesome if you could tell me about them thanks
