if the base is ?5 and height is 1 how do u work out the hypotonuse. ?

Question: The square root sign disappears - how do I show a square root sign in the quote section. I've tried 'guided mode' and ' enhanced mode' and neither work for me ?

the rules for the multiplication of surds are that the square root of a x the sqaure root of b = the sqaure root of ab

eg. square root of 2 x the sqaure root of 3 = the sqaure root of 6

*shock* thats genius. Lots of people said surds were hard at GCSE but i did intermediat so i didn do it. They took surds off sylabus tho cs it was "too hard"

If you have √27

this equals √3 x √9

which equals √3 x 3

which equals 3√3

Which is in the simplest surd form.

Basically, if you are given a number for example 27, you have to look for a square number that can be multiplied to give 27 in this example. This is 9, since 3 x 9 is 27. Easy when you know how :smile:
