If you really look at it, it's so pseudo-intellectual in the way it tries so hard to be "deep" and "different", to an extent it becomes just plain boring. It's really quite ****. The kind of thing "I'm-so-none-conformist-and-deep" teens will put as their fave film on myspace.

Realistically, most people don't give two hoots and talk about TV shows anyway. Also, very few are shot in film. I know classics such as Seinfeld and Frasier were, as well as shows like Mad Men, The Sopranos and others, since they have been converted to blu ray (which can only be done with film at the moment).

Should be able to explain better than I could. Well, Blu ray outputs 1080p and I'm guessing the cameras that Mann used was 720p or 1080? So it means that he could easily upscale or just leave it as it is. For example, on Youtube, you're starting to see more videos that can go up to 720p or 1080p and that's because newer cameras can shoot in this quality.

I completely disagree, though it may not be to your taste which is far enough. I just love the transformation as a sudden jolt for the main character and his break away from the materialistic culture his wife's life is soully based around (eg the sofa scene). I love all the interpretations I've read and agree with so many, I believe it's a beautiful film and I honestly hope I don't watch it for a few years so I forget what happens and enjoy it again

But i can see some of your points, as far as a "journey" for the main character goes it's pretty quick, sees a girl, falls in love, suddenly becomes free is a bit fast but personally I love it. It didn't in my opinion need a huge time to change, just an everyday man who suddenly goes "**** my life, **** my wife and dammit I'm ****ing that hot teenager." but I don't think it's something people say they like to be "different" considering it was voted the best film of 1999...

Isn't cinema quality resolutions higher though? So he would've had to upscale in the editing stage, no? Film can be so technical as well. :teeth:
