Entourage just doesn't have the same feeling now, at least compared to when I started watching it to be honest.
Are we allowed to discuss tvshows in the film thread? :ninja:

In that case I just saw the first episode of Nip/Tuck and I really liked it

Well, I just watched American Beauty for the first time and I have to say, without a shadow of a doubt I have never seen a more beautiful film and I doubt a film will ever have me so enthralled that I'm literally rooting for Leicester and on the edge of my seat the entire time. No film has ever made me feel just so... amazed! It's amazing haha.

Honestly, I just wish I could watch it again for the first time. The feeling I got when watching that, I just couldn't stop. It's fantastic. I haven't loved a film this much since Donnie Darko.
The first time I watched it, I thought it was dull, and a whole load of hype about nothing. Second time, I was sort of "converted" I shared a similar view to you.

Third time I watched it, I realised that gut feelings are there for a reason, and tbh it's really not that good. If you really look at it, it's so pseudo-intellectual in the way it tries so hard to be "deep" and "different", to an extent it becomes just plain boring. It's really quite ****. The kind of thing "I'm-so-none-conformist-and-deep" teens will put as their fave film on myspace.

It is a chat thread, so you don't have to restrict discussion strictly to films. Feel free to branch off.

It actually satirises that kind of culture in places.

If it weren't for TSR rules, I would be discussing porn here.

Technically, aren't TV shows also film? I'm not sure about this - but it isn't 'The Movie Thread', so would it be branching off? :dontknow:

TSR has a certain standard, and discussing porn would be going below that standard.

But discussing porn would be funny. How do you rate that film? Probably by how you felt when you ejaculated...

Realistically, most people don't give two hoots and talk about TV shows anyway. Also, very few are shot in film. I know classics such as Seinfeld and Frasier were, as well as shows like Mad Men, The Sopranos and others, since they have been converted to blu ray (which can only be done with film at the moment).

Is that true? What about something like Public Enemies, which is available on Blu Ray but was shot on digital?

Should be able to explain better than I could. Well, Blu ray outputs 1080p and I'm guessing the cameras that Mann used was 720p or 1080? So it means that he could easily upscale or just leave it as it is. For example, on Youtube, you're starting to see more videos that can go up to 720p or 1080p and that's because newer cameras can shoot in this quality.

Yeah, Mann shot on 1080p so he wouldn't really need to convert. Wasn't really thinking properly there. :p:

I completely disagree, though it may not be to your taste which is far enough. I just love the transformation as a sudden jolt for the main character and his break away from the materialistic culture his wife's life is soully based around (eg the sofa scene). I love all the interpretations I've read and agree with so many, I believe it's a beautiful film and I honestly hope I don't watch it for a few years so I forget what happens and enjoy it again

But i can see some of your points, as far as a "journey" for the main character goes it's pretty quick, sees a girl, falls in love, suddenly becomes free is a bit fast but personally I love it. It didn't in my opinion need a huge time to change, just an everyday man who suddenly goes "**** my life, **** my wife and dammit I'm ****ing that hot teenager." but I don't think it's something people say they like to be "different" considering it was voted the best film of 1999...

Isn't cinema quality resolutions higher though? So he would've had to upscale in the editing stage, no? Film can be so technical as well. :teeth:

Btw, I got the Wired for last month and this month. Intellectual Ventures. :coma: As well as the story about the bomber robbing the bank and Max Butler.
