Sounds fairly legit - just make sure the funds clear into your account before you ship it off, I say.

well you can do whatever (so it's not a question of it being legit or not) although with gumtree you are just supposed to meet the buyers/sellers in person and exchange money etc.
If he pays you the money, and you can see it in your account, then i dont see why you can't ship it...
Bit risky, espesh if there is another buyer
Hope this helped

Well his reply was quite detailed, and appears slightly dodgy.

Hello ,
How are you today? I live in Bristol and very much interested in
buying from you as your price is very okay with me. I want you to know
i am buying it as a present to a friend of mine who went on a course,
I want you to kindly help me ship it. i would have loved to meet face
to face but cant make it cos i am currently working on a project for my company
in east Anglia.

Payment will be made via PayPal including the shipping cost £15 via
Royal Mail registered, kindly send money request to my PayPal
registered email address at: [email protected] so i can make payment
now.

hope to read from you

just check the money is your paypal account before you send anything off. dont trust the paypal emails as they can be forged make sure you log into PayPal and check the time and date of the funds. I nearly got scammed by this last year, but I noticed just in time.

You will get a Paypal fee unless he sends it as a 'Gift'.

If I were you, I would say that you only accept Paypal if it is a Gift payment and you won't post the item out until the funds have been withdrawn to your bank account (this takes 2-3 working days).

It sounds scammy - look out for something like this. If you have other potential buyers, I'd go with them instead; otherwise, agree to sell it to him, but wait till the full amount has cleared on Paypal before sending it.
