They aren't the same thing are they? which is done in your college or are they both college based? how much time do they take up?

A supervision is the Cambridge word, tutorial the Oxford word.
and of course supervision sounds better :p:

Speak for yourself, the standard was super amongst my friends, it's easier to say.

I dunno then. That's what all my supervisors use. Maybe it's a music faculty thing.

so hold on, do we have all supervisions in college or are some arranged out of college too?

Do u guys find that Cambridge has loadsa confusing terms for freshers, eg. formals, mums, plodge, and what is a buttery?

supervisions sometimes take place in college, sometimes take place out of college, sometimes take place in the pub.

A buttery is just a canteen. Ooh and my favourite cambridge term, mlodge - master's lodge. "I've got drinks with the master in the mlodge tonight..."

hahahahah mlodge! thats a good one. Supervisions in a pub? what you meet your Dos or tutor in a pub?

And can some1 please tell me why they're called ents? My theory is that one person decided to take the ev off events, so they're ents. right? wrong? no one knows?

formals = formal hall = posh dinner in gowns
mums = female college parent (ie.. some 2nd year girl told to look after you)
plodge = porter's lodge (where porters live)
buttery = somewhere that sells drinks + butter

Occasionally, yes. Alas, all too rarely (I've only done it once) :frown: Doesn't make for a hugely effective supervision (although in our case that may have been because our friends followed us to the pub and were waving at us all through the supervision).
