Hello chaps,
This is coming to you from the US of A! It's 5.17pm over here (I'm finally getting over the jet lag now). Look at http://www.edders.org for one update I've been able to do to the site. I haven't had a chance to hook my digital camera up yet, but I should be putting some pics of the school/town of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, up soon.

Now, a tech problem for you all. My roommate's computer is a rather old Mac running OS 8.5. I can't find a version of MSN Messenger to run on it that'll work (latest version requires OS X); if anyone can tell me how to get Messenger going on it I'll reward them with muchos rep points. I don't have the permissions necessary to install MSN on the school's own computers but I'll ask them if they can do it for me soon. I'm afraid I haven't got time to do any more moderating now (busy busy!) so you'll have to manage without my supervision! All I have time for (as far as I can tell) is the occasional post letting you know I've updated my site.

Cheerio, and keep it real
"keep it real" - please don't copy.

Hey you don't know me! But anyway I had a look on the messenger site and found this:

"Mac OS 8

We're sorry but we have discontinued support for MSN Messenger for Mac on OS 8.x. We only support MSN Messenger for Mac on OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.1.3 or later."

it's on this link

Hi Edders! Keep up the good work and enjoy your stayover. I don't know about MSN on the MAC, but you might have a try on Trillian. Trillian is a multi-network client and not only supports MSN, but also AIM, ICQ and Yahoo accounts. It might work on the MAC, so just try. Here's the link:

right, edders, you have several choices.

firstly, you could try to track down an old enough version of messenger. there probably will be one out there and just because microsoft say they don't support it doesn't mean that it won't work (although it may not). (eg this - although i think this may only be for windows.)

the trillian thought is a good one...although trillian itself won't work on a mac...there is a similar client for macs though...called fire but dammit - thats only osx too.

not having much luck!

and then there's http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10737 or http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/mo...9804&mode=info but it says you need 8.6 or 9.0. probably worth a try though.

ok...well that was a pretty fruitless search...but thanks for reminding me why i used to hate macs so!

I think I may have found a solution. You'd need to have java installed on the machine, but should work.

I've found a web based solution -
http://www.mister-i.com/english/meweb.htm
Not sure how easy it is to use though

The only other one I could find was http://www.terravirtual.net/tvjab/ but that was for OS 8.6 and above.

yeah i did actually dan, although it wasnt a big deal. straight off the plane i had to walk through a checkpoint where they check the passengers passports; while youre standing they make you look into a camera (like a webcam) and put both of your index fingers onto a scanner. only took a minute, and now they can identify my body after shooting without asking any questions lol!

thanks to way2go, llama boy and soulfish for your helpful suggestions. unfortunately none of them seem to work but ill try them on the schools network tomorrow in the library. i took a bunch of photos around the town today (it was FREEZING cold!!! ) so hopefully ill be able to put them up in a few days time.
