I have 4 hours on a monday this term, including 3 hours of programming (*sigh*). Will only be 1 next term though.

Also, damn my tutor to hell. The git has organised a 10am tutorial this wednesday (have a formal tomorrow) I was supposed to have the morning off

they are very dingy, the walls are bare bricks (in the corridors, some of which are loose) a lot of things are broken, the kitchens are packed with appliances made in the 60's etc..

It probably not that bad really, just not as good as some of the other blocks.

The walls are bare bricks?? XD

Ahahaha.
Advice, do your computer project as soon as you can, because if you can't do the program, then you may have to pull several all nigters. And unlucky if you get Solitons.

Apparently.
I am never programming ANYTHING, because it is a useless and untransferable skill!!

I didn't get solitons, I got something called quarkonium instead. programming and quantum mechanics, my two favorite things in the world . I would have probably prefered solitons because that was my second year lab project. Ah well

In fairness it is very useful for numerical analysis, much easier than trying to do impossible differential equations.

The room walls aren't bare brick, just the corridor walls. Also, Wear is positively palatial compared to some other university residences that I've been in, so I don't feel too bad.

PROGRAMMING IS BARE GAY. (As they say in the hood).

I like that you play on my utter distaste for differential equations in winning me over. Touche Steven, touche.

That's what the lab bloke said to my bf last year when he gave him the project, "ooh, unfortunately you got solitons." Hahaha.

Btw, I have no idea what solitons are......

Don't know about more crap, but it is equally bad.

It is definitely more crap. Derwent have new carpets, new deskchairs and their kitchens are almost suitable for human habitation.

3 day week, earliest start is 11. And that is if i can be arsed to go...
Ah, the joys of the year abroad, making up for the Langs dept in Durham taking attendance in EVERYTHING.

Modern languages for me = 5 day week, 4 9ams a week and 5 hours of lectures on Tuesdays!! Can't wait for my year abroad!

They are a special type of wave that propagate without any energy loss (So in theory a perfect soliton would go on forever). They were discovered in the Union Canal by a very dull sounding man called *checks wikipedia* John Scott Russell.

Well it was much worse when i lived there :p:

Hill dwellers complaining about the standard of their accomodation . What, do you want 5 star bleeding luxury or something?

Yeah, it is total luxury here, we can choose whatever we want and we don't have to attend, although I'd go crazy from boredom if I didn't so I do.
Unlucky with the 4 9ams, I had that in 1st year too. Got away with 2 in 2nd year though, even though I had 6 hours on every other Thursday with no break for lunch :frown: .

Actually, I DID know that!!!
I am such an amazing proofreader!
Solitons come in many forms, perfect and imperfect solitons are both of equal beauty and character.

But the perfect ones are definitely made of ghosts.

Now, if this were my project write-up, what would be the result of handing it in?

Yes. As compensation for climbing up that damn hill. (Alas I live out and now have a worse hill *sigh)

Good description, but you would fail because you don't have a ghost number or an error on your ghost number.

And the ground floor of Wear smells really bad. And the soundproofing is terrible, the corrdors remind you of a prison as only 3 out of 5 lights are on at any one time (n.b they all actually work, they just don't turn them all on) and I used to have a pencil holding up a shelf.
Ghettotastic.
Ugh. Are we sure this is Durham uni here?
