P.S. No one is jealous of English students. They're all, "I wish I could - wait, I CAN read. What a bunch of losers."

This isn't true.

A friend of mine does English and last summer we were always revising in the library.....one time I was looking for some books for a module and she came and chatted to me and I was confused by a whole Jane Eyre thing (yes, in geography!!) and she had to explain to me that Jane Eyre was a book, not the actual author

It's like the "cultured" side of English that people are jealous of!

This is 50% of my degree... Yeah, San Francisco has an insane amount of microbreweries I'm informed. What I've had of the local (bottled) ale hasn't been top though.
Oregon is meant to be a nice state, I'm off to DC in spring break though, which should be fun, and then my girlfriend is coming to visit, so it'll all be ace!

It's 40% of your degree surely.

2nd year is 40%
3rd year is 60%

That's what it's like for all the other geographers anyway

PS. Oregon is poo. SOOOOO boring!!! Just go to upstate California...or head over to Arizona via Nevada and you'll have some good times!! Yosemite National Park is awsomely beautiful!!! GO THERE!

Yum!!

Dunno, probs in easter hols for her birthday....you think you have it bad with the Norwegian? I haven't seen my Czech in nearly 4 months! :frown::frown::frown:

And I do speak more Czech than that - I can count to 10 :proud: aaaand say some other random words.

I know, this ghey. 2 weeks since I saw him.......dunno when I'm next going to either. Maybe in June? :frown:
I'm jealous of English and History and Music students. Mainly because I love all those things and wish I were good enough to have got into Durham to do them. Would have helped if I'd done English for A level though I suppose.
I can say stuff in Norwegian :proud:
I think I should know more though. And I don't really know how to write it down......

Hehe, I live with an American from San Diego here and she says exactly the same thing.

Bottled ale in America?!? I'd have never thought it would exist! Does it exist on draught or am I just getting my hopes up a little too high perhaps? Obviously it won't be as good as good old English Ale or Belgian beer but you never know.

Kev, hehe I like pointing things out in other languages too. Also, the Czech way pronunciation for "Děkuji" is just about the same for djenkuwie in Polish (you pronounce it"djin queer"). I'm slowly learning Polish from my Polish friend here, but I knew a couple of things already as my Mum's Dad was from Belarus(and so spoke a mixture of Russian and Polish) and my Mum remembered certain things. For instance good day in Polish is "gdzen dobry" (djen dobree) but in Russian it's the other way round "dobry gdzen" (dobra djen)!

Becca, I know what you mean about the wishing to do a History or Music degree..(in the Music case just for the sheer lack of lectures and just generally the people who do it are so passionate about music anyway... and in the case of my boyfriend, before I met him I didn't know what an oboe looked like or what a bassoon actually was. )

Haha...the Czech is "Dobrý den" - simply "dobree den"

I see some familiarities in Czech, Polish, and Russian!

Yeah, I think some of it is on draught but I can't get into any bars to see, I bet it's kept pretty terribly. Students here seem to be waaay more into spirits/****e lager than UK students.

It is different to be able to read a book and to be able to appreciate it. Part of me wishes that I find literiture interesting (Seriously)

Aww, well the important thing is that you know what oboes and bassoons are now. :p:
I should read some Italian literature whilst I'm out here....but....meh. We'll see. :p:
I'm jealous of social scientists. I'd kind of like to be doing psychology or economics, something like that. It'd be good if there was actually a 'right answer' sometimes, or just slightly more sciency elements...

In other news, I think I may have just broken my little toe yet AGAIN. Ow.

I once broke a toe in taekwon-do ... by kicking a plug socket. My toe went purple and grew to the size of a carrot. I feel for you.
I smashed my toe nail the other night.I was kicking a balloon when I accidentally kicked a wall, toe nail smashed to utter oblivion:frown:And I hurt my calf in the gym.Lol.

I wish I could speak a language fluently too,a few of my friends are languages students and I am very jealous:frown:I can speak a bit of Spanish but meh,I'd love to be able to speak Japanese or something.

If it makes you feel any better, I only have half of my toenail on my left big toe due to an unfortunate stubbing incident....

I'm about to go out to lunch with the boyfriend's parents. They are Swedish and his mum is scary. Apparently she wanted him to go out with a blonde sloaney type. Maybe I should rah it up a bit? :frown:
