You serious?! Chad's gym is £10 a term

Haha! :p: Yeah, I paid £5 back in October 2004 and haven't had to pay again

Jess - I don't know what you class as "adequate" - Trevs gym is pretty small (if you have more than 7 or 8 people in there at once it would be too crowded!) but most of the time there are only about 4 people in there, if that, and has all the basics that you need

I'm going to Durham tomorrow wooooooooooo!

I'll be able to go to the Woodman and have a fantastic pint.

PS: I'm back in Spain in a week, but my boyfriend is currently working at Beamish. So those of you who know him, or know what he looks like, please say hi.

All I want in the world is an exercise bike. A working one. Hild Bede's gym fails to have one, and the people in charge fail to respond to complaints about this. So I am not satisfied. I want my £20 back but I doubt very much that this is feasible.

I always thought Beamish was a word invented by Lewis Carroll.

beamish! woo.

Beamish is awesome. Good memories of school trips there, going to the mock-Victorian lesson and the old sweet shop were highlights.

We had a trip there in Year 3, unfortunately I came down with some illness on that ONE day and couldn't go, I remember going back to school when I was better and they spent like a whole day doing posters and projects about the trip and were all talking about it. I was gutted :frown:

Weird how you remember certain events really clearly isn't it! That was year 3, and I can remember it like it was just last year!

Though I have been to Beamish numerous other times, I love the trams!

Oh yeah and Trevs gym has an exercise bike

I think our trip was about y3 as well! I remember getting shouted at by the victorian school teacher because I copied from the board onto my slate incorrectly. :p:

You're never this funny when you write for durham21. Why?

Because here I am a free man (like people in SPAARTAAAAA!!!!!) and am unshackled from the restraint and censorship of an oppressive Stalinist editor.

Also, as a sport writer, I am writing on topics not important or relevant to must durham21 readers, yet my latest article is officially the site's 3rd 'hottest' in the last 14 days. I am a pivotal member of the d21 team (some would say the most important, but I'm too modest for that) and editor of one of the most consistent sections of the website, yet I don't even have a picture or a name on the 'who are we' section. I mean, what gives man? I'm just not loved enough. Like Nicolas Anelka I just need that arm around me in training to spur me on and help me produce. Will you be my Fat Sam?

You'll notice that the fourth hottest article (http://www.durham21.co.uk/archive/archive.asp?ID=2878) was written in Christmas 2005 and has only one less comment that your article in the last 14 days. I think that pisses on your little fire.

A (mildly) interesting fact is that if you put "southwestern company" (the subject of the afore-linked piece) into google, the d21 article is the third hit that comes up.

you probably have a point there. Heads will roll.

Nuns need exercise too. Are they wearing their habits in your imagination, or perhaps leotards with just the head bit so that you know they're nuns? Is Whoopi Goldberg there? Perhaps it's a sexual thing based on the fact that you cannot sleep with a nun. Unless your magic man wand gets better and lures them in ...

Fortunately they're fully decked out in nun regalia as I would hate to see the type of nuns I'm imagining in leotards. Whoopi Goldberg in a leotard would be even worse. I imagine that would be the sort of dream I'd be having if I died in my sleep. And being based on the fact I can't have sex with them would make a lot of sense actually, it would also explain why I've been dreaming about horses, Power Rangers, aeroplanes and women.

I'm not even going to neg rep you, because I think that's what you want. Look at you with your two red gems, what an achievement! I bet you love just going around the forums annoying people and then feeling like you're a rebel then going to high school (I assume you are under 18, if you are over 18 then you have some serious mental issues) and thinking you're cool because you punish weaker people by laughing at them for being intelligent or wearing a warm coat in winter, or even physically punishing others - but that doesn't make you a bully, noooo, you're just having some fun!

Am I assuming a lot from one post? Yes.

Are you assuming a lot from one person on TV? Yes.

Don't you just love trolls

Hilarious.

Why, may I ask, do you keep stereotyping?
At 1st I 4t the gems were red cos my warning level is 12. LOL!!

i have found 98% of the time the stereotypes ARE TRUE (if the stereotypes werent true - then they would be imediately be dismissed by the general public)- people slate me on this forum for stereotyping - i only state my observations as they are - and people have a problem with that- yet if it's done in a "comedic" fashion then it's completely OK .

I'm thinking for example Apu in the simpson's the katherine tate sketches/ the vicky polard skethes where she stereotypes chav's . . . and take for example "goodness gracious me" ., "the kumars at 42" . . .
. . .there is alot of stereotyping on "East is East". . .and stereotypes of class- such as "Laurie and Fry"

Yet, I stated on one forum that ethnic minorities underperform academically in the UK - u may have heard a piece about it on the news today - and some people deem this as a racist statement - when all i'm doing is stating what the reports have said.

O......kay, you're an interesting one aren't you?

Firstly by saying that "ethnic minorities underperform academically in the UK" you are being racist, because you haven't termed it correctly. If you had stated that "on average, ethnic minorities underperform..etc" then I guess that would be fine. But what you're doing there is taking a report and assuming because many are like that, ALL are like that.

You say that in a "comedic fashion" it would be fine, but you don't realise certain things. Firstly just because some Asian comedians decide to make a comedy about an Asian-British community (i.e. East is East) it doesn't mean you can then go around making jokes about Asian people - comedians are careful about what they say and do, which is why when they make racist jokes, etc. they get booed down.

Also, when you're making jokes about charvers or posh people, this is joking about essentially a lifestyle choice rather than a skin colour and is a completely different area. I think you'd find a lot of people complaining if a Vicki Pollard sketch was done and they actually announced that it was set in a specific suburb in a specific city - because it would imply that people there were like that; whereas they are kept generic.

Same with posh people (or "toffs" as you like to call them, but to be fair the only people who I know who use the word "toff" are the rahs themselves, we say "rah")....you can make jokes about them but you can't go making statements like "the typical durham student is a toff" - because you don't know this!

And 98% of the time they're true? *******S, why not come to Durham and see for yourself? I'm a student at Durham (obviously), I'm from Newcastle and live in a former-council estate which was built post-WW2, my parents are civil servants with no university education in my family....hmm yeah I'm sure I'm a "toff"!!

Also, you say stereotypes would be dismissed by the public if they weren't true.....WHAT?! Are you kidding me?! For a few hundred years now the people of Africa have been stereotyped as barbaric, savage tribal people who hunt with spears and live in the wilderness - maybe true hundreds of years ago but today it's very far from the truth in many places! Yet when you open a magazine about Africa or watch a TV program about the place what do you see? Photos of tribal people with spears and face paint on, riding an elephant! Or of course the stereotype that all people in Africa are diseased and malnourished so we see photos of these people. IT'S NOT TRUE FOR MANY OF THEM - it's a stereotype, but people do not dismiss it.

BECAUSE THE MASS PUBLIC ARE STUPID AND BELIEVE WHAT THEY SEE ON THE TV AND READ IN THE NEWSPAPERS/CRAPPY MAGAZINES.

I'm sorry but you are so very very wrong
