positive thinking robbie
Just found out about 12 new lectures I didn't know existed, and spent half an hour photocopying the 70 pages of handout... which im going to have to read the day before and make some record breakingly brief notes on.

****ing hell. I dont think it could get much worse, not that I want to jinx myself or anything!!!!!

This will sound mega bitchy and it's really not meant to, but sometimes I kind of want to hate you ... you always find it really easy to motivate yourself and do loads of work! Some of us don't find it so easy and it's not so simple for us

Obviously I'm only kidding about - please don't be offended - but people who find it easy to work hard all year round make me feel inadequate :frown:

EDIT: I know this is scant consolation, Robbie, seeing as I am a lowly first year, but I haven't started revision yet. Got a summative to finish by tomorrow and half a play to write by the weekend (a deadline that my director only told me about yesterday). I also went to a Purple Radio Exec meeting earlier that had been cancelled, but the email was sent with really short notice and I was the only one who hadn't got it. I hate it when I waste my time like that. And like this. But I can't stop myself. Good luck with revision and remember, if you deliberately contract a serious illness that means you can't take the exams, you'll be laughing.

Lol,no I'm not offended. Don't feel inadequate. I've GOT to work year round,I can't just cram at the last minute, I'm not smart enough for it(plus,I like my sleep too much and the thought of staying up all night cramming is my idea of hell). I wish I could be, so many of my friends are so lax about their studies and I'm not sure whether it's a public facade or true but...grr.

I have one friend who is just amazing though, she takes her books to the gym to read on the stepper, she leaves our social gatherings at random intervals to go work...if she gets below a first she demeans her 'low marks'...while little old me has to study 'just' to get marks in the mid-60s...grr.

I'm a panicker, panicking gets me through things and makes me start early.Lol.

Anyhoo, this evening I intended on doing lots of work, ended up doing about 40 minutes, made three cups of tea,got pick n mix and came online,I can't seem to concentrate. I did make the mistake of looking at past exam papers this afternoon though..:frown:

By the way, good luck Robbie, are things really as bad as you describe? Why don't you claim mitigating circumstances if you're really worried?

I'm so smart, I only need to cram after the exam.

Good idea. But don't you need a medical certificate for this?

You need a note from doctor if it's a medical issue.

But if it's a mental health issue I think you can have a note from the Counselling Service. (I know this isn't related to Rob's problem but thought I'd raise it nonetheless to inform.)

To be honest, for first years it could be a naivety/arrogance that makes them so lax. I know that I was certainly like that. Freshers are just not aware of the impending doom.

I have been to a good 90-95% of my lectures this year, (this is up from about 40-50% the last two years) and it really does make a difference. It is much easier to be motivated when you know of the horrors of failure.
I've been to the vast majority of my lectures this year(all of them for three modules...)...

The only reason I geneally missed lectures was because the lecturer reads off the slides and I can damn well read off the slides in the comfort of my own room, rather than having to drag myself down to Elvet Riverside at 9 a bloody m.

True, but the lecturer might add a few things in so you have missed a crucial point.
If a point is ever crucial then it is written down somewhere if the lecturer is worth his salt.

Im perfectly happy to make myself seriously ill if I have to.

I have a pack of chicken defrosting at home.

Alternatively ill eat chinese chicken chow mein left out all night on a counter in the open air.

Salmonella party.

They cant make me take exams with salmonella.

In English there aren't really "crucial points", just valid interpretations. The worst thing is going to a lecture even though you have a million and one other things to do, and then the lecturer spends half the time talking about a book that's not on the course (so no one in the lecture will have read it) to illustrate a point vaguely related to something you ARE studying. Then they show video clips for the rest of the time. (This doesn't happen often, but it's so annoying when it does!)

Panicking and doing things early ftw. :five:

Resetting body clock for the exams FTL! :coffee:
48 hours before a maths exam, and only think I can scrabble 30% on it. I could do with 50.

20% increase in 2 days... while doing other revision... Not too likely is it? Ugh, I wish I wasn't such a ****ing fighter, then I could go down gracefully. But I MUST pass 3 modules to stay at Durham and even have a chance to do resits. How awful this has all gotten.
Reply 6099
Why don't you concentrate on doing well on three of them, then fail the other three with flair and blitz them all at resits
