Not sure if this applies to all subjects but in some the maximum mark you can get if you resit an exam is 40%. (bit of a pain, but then it serves you right for failing in the first place)

Remember kids, things are never as bad as they seem.

I want to pass 5 this time round, particularly the double module... Can you image going in the second time KNOWING you have to pass them, but only being capped at 40% marks for them all.
Horrendous!!

Its idiotic that they ahvent told us any of our lab marks or anything for core chemistry or properties of molecules...

I mean its just plain ****ing stupid. That could save me a lot of stress if I knew I was already heading for a pass! Bunch of ******s.

They are a bit.

Just a small, little bit.

****ing horribly worse.
I would concentrate on passing 4, that way you can still pass the year without any forced concessions. Remember they only let you take 2 resits now.
It said 3 resits in my Natural sciences continuation page thing?

Are you sure Steven, because that would be absolutely a dead baby.
That was how I thought it worked. You can fail 3 and still get through to the next year with concessions if you pass 2 resits (and just accept failing the third) but I am sure you can't take a third. I will ask my friend who did this last year when I next see her.

Or perhaps it varies between departments.
Hi guys. One simple question. On a four year course (MPhys in my case), do you need to pass all modules at 50% or 40% in the first year? I heard a rumour about 50 but then I looked at the department homepage and it said that Core A Maths/Single A and B needed to be passed at 40% but nothing about Discovery Skills or Foundations in Physics or the optional module (Introduction to Astronomy in my case). Does anyone know the answer?
You dont need to have 50% in everything, for sure.

First year doesnt matter in that sense, I believe.

last year I got 55, 55, 45, 72.. so dont know really. 55s were phys and chem. Email someone, just to be sure.

I am not totally sure but I think that below 50% they suggest that you switch down. I don't know whether or not they can force you.

EDIT: the above is to average 50%, you definately do not need 50% across the board.

I don't actually think they can force you; however someone was telling me that if you consistently get a lower grade, they will strongly suggest you leave.

I've just started one of the four plays I still haven't read. Bleak House, Robinson Crusoe and Paradise Lost have all been given up on.

I am also in a ****ing **** mood. And my boyfriend is being a tool, which makes it all worse.

Paradise Lost is so difficult to analyse! I read it three weeks ago and only understood a few passages.

I've been to all the lectures on it and the tutorials, and I've read part of it, and I actually really like it. It's a shame, really, because I dislike most of the other poetry on the module but I just don't have time to read it!

Only one act into the first of the four plays I haven't read. I'm giving up on two of them. Oops.
Approx. one month today and I'll be back in Durham!! #excited#
