What else would get you out of having to share a room though?

Do you have any ideas that are slightly less harmful to myself?
Being gay works I believe. Or you could pretend to be... depends how good you are at acting really!
RK89
It depends on the consequences each way in a gamble, and the probablility of reaching them, whether or not the gamble is a good idea. Plus I like my space so i wudnt really want to share!

wow, you are just one of these people who has an answer for everything aren't you

If it bothers you that much, then go to Mildert. We don't have any shared rooms.

Also, if it bothers you that much then why didn't you research this before you applied?

Because I naively expected i would get in somewhere else, and I was lazy with the application and selected open for Durham. Also I guess the probablilty of having to share is pretty low, so didnt worry about it when i had a skim through the promotional material.

lol, sounds like an intresting idea, doubt I would be able to pull off the act myself though, I am an appauling actor.
Do they seriously make you go in a room on your own if you're gay? Is there like a "what sexual orientation are you?" box on the interests form?

Yeah but what happens if someone has the same idea as you?

Yeah, I know someone in Hild Bede who thought he'd get away with doing that, turns out they put him in a room with a 'real' gay bloke and he got bum raped every night for the whole of the first year.

lol, i hope he enjoyed it. Seriously though, has anyone got any good ideas about avoiding sharing, asides writing a nice letter explaing why i dont want to share?
Unless you have a medical/psychological condition, I don't really think you're going to get out of sharing if you're selected for sharing. So . . . either write them a note or just deal with whatever happens.

I wonder what percentage of this story is truth, Sean.

And no, you do not have to disclose sexual orientation, but you can use it as a reason to have your own room. You could also make-up some condition that means you have to have your own space, like chlaustrophobia... but beware, they may make you live in a giant marquee or something. Positive discrimination is a dangerous playmate.

I guess Sean would know better than either of us two... I guess his story refers to himself.
As for needing my own space, Ill have to look into the psychobabble dictionary and see what I can find... must be exotic though otherwise they wont fall for it.
I really hate it when people abuse the system like that. My ex-housemate made up that she had a fear of crowds so that she could take her exams on her own. Its quite outrageous really

Is it really an advantage to take an exam on your own?
And also lots people tend to see all systems as targets for abuse, you may as well take advantage of any loopholes, if you dont then others will!

It is when it is a small department and you know the invigilator.

Well this is where we differ. I prefer to be honest.

Are you implying this person is actually getting special help when answering questions from the indivdulator?
As for being honest, I like to be when I can, but if everyone else is cheating then I am not going to get stuck behind for being principled, ideally id like to cheat first so im ahead of these ppl. (obviously with exams i dont cheat, i tend to do well off my own back, regardless who else is cheating)
I must say, I am a system abuser. If I can cut a corner, or find a loophole through... I do it. But only if I need to.
