I think this new style is actually hurting my eyes, but anyway....

The best thing about the college system for me is it allows flexibility and people to do whatever they want with it, whether it's just forming a small group of friends and sticking with them or going out and making friends all over the joint. It also allows for a much greater variety and number of sporting teams and societies, as well as social occassions from DVD nights to fancy dress parties individually planned within colleges that are much more accessible to a greater number of people. It also means in effect 14 (or whatever) individual 'union bars' throughout what is already a small city, made even smaller by the collegiate University. In addition, it also necessitates a larger core of staff meaning more friendly tutor people and more personal assistance in offices and administration. This on top of the light hearted rivalry and bonding which adds a spark to friendships and University wide events. It's class.

I've spent a lot of time (staying with friends) in Norwich/UEA, York and Nottingham, and the collegiate system makes one hell of a difference that shouldn't be underestimated.

Oh dear, what have they done with TSR? Clicking on 'All forums' gives you something approaching normality, but what's all this other stuff? It's pointless and confusing. And it hurts my eyes. It's all a bit Web 2.0

And whoever said Castle was elite, you're wrong. If they were in any way elitist they wouldn't have let me in. Their selection process does in fact involve drawing names out of a hat, but don't tell anyone
Guys head over to 'About the Student Room' and voice some angry protestation if you don't like it. The idiots that did this need to hear it. There are already hundreds of complaints. Go and make the difference boys and girls.

Basically, to paraphrase. FLY MY PRETTIES, FLYYYYY!!!

I was there earlier. It does sound like they're going to fix it up a bit (ie. hopefully stop the blinding white melting my eyeballs out of my sockets and ruining my keyboard) so perhaps all is not lost.

I think it's quite a nice layout to be honest. Took me a little while to find the Durham forum, but once I got there I was happy.

The only thing I don't really like is that, as someone else mentioned, you can't easily tell which threads have new posts in them....and I haven't figured out yet which graphic it is that tells me!! I'm sure I will eventually.

Otherwise it's a nice layout, and although very white, I recently turned the brightness on my monitor all the way down to the minimum possible as the whiteness of webpages were hurting my eyes (and probably using a lot more electricity than now!)....I think generally if you're using the computer a lot you should think about turning your brightness down, to save your eyesight! It's really helped me (I was getting headaches!) and this new layout isn't bothering me. I like it
There's a little star in a speech bubble beside threads with new posts in them.
You need to look for some sort of yellow icon not a white one, that's all I've got.

I don't like looking that far left, normally I was just looking at the pages to open any bold threads in a new window.

No you're wrong - the star means you've got lots of posts in that thread.

To find out if there are NEW posts in a thread, there is a little green downwards arrow at the end of the thread title - if you click on it it takes you to the newest post that you haven't read yet in that thread.

Me likes

No, the star does mean new posts. There's even a key on every forum page saying so. The arrow is just a shortcut link to the first post you haven't seen.

It was so much better when they just put unread threads in bold though. And has anyone figured out how to actually get to this subforum using their fancy new interface (without clicking 'all forums')? I haven't. It's a complete mess, it's like they've read a book on good web design and done the complete opposite to everything it says.

Yeah... I'm not too keen tbh, but guess I'll get used to it! What do other people think?

It looks a lot nicer, it should be alright when i can get it to work.

that was there before, but in blue, and a lot less obvious.
nice feature though
Why, when the style is in CSS, can't they have user-selectable themes? So that old fogies (like me) could go back to the preferred old style.

Ah yes, 'twas all a bit confusing to me at first, but now I understand

I really don't see the point in this change for TSR. If it ain't broke don't fix it, ya know?
Does this new layout have any functional purpose other than confusing existing members? Seems that whoever designed and put this through had way too much time on their hands.

But by the sheer fact that it's an overblown triviality is why I'm not going to 'formally' complain.
