....... web bots .......

Just as a matter of interest, Hopping, do you believe it was really the CIA that trashed the twin towers?

Further question, who exactly are you?
Troll. Noone calls themselves "sebastion".
tis true, you get loads of web bots on forums.

Cuths have a gym on the bailey site and a new one I think in Brooks House.

Nah, I think it was squirrels. As for googlebots, any web admin would know that stuff, so dont try that trick on me. Now its your turn to answer some questions, namely who are you? And maybe wtf you are doing here?

Hmmm, how about ‘Dilbert’ then, Arkbar, or even plain old ‘-’ ? But well spotted, Pikaboo, ‘sebastion’ is a (misspelled) alias used by Simon Templar in Leslie Charteris’s Saint books. (The surname was Tombs!) It has no significance here.

What more do you want to know about me? Everything I have said in all posts I have made is true. I am a parent with a keen interest in my daughter’s progress at Durham and Durham TSR has been of incalculable help to me. She knows this and has never said she thinks it is a breach of her privacy. Some of you think I am odd because I like to know what your results are. Well, I think that view is equally odd. Results (sadly, perhaps) are one of the most important things about students. (You did know that these are made publicly available on: http://www.dur.ac.uk/spa/student/assessment/passlistdates/ ?)

I suppose I could tell you my name, but I am certain it would mean nothing to you. I could tell you my daughter’s name, course, college, etc, but why drag her into it? I am happy to try to answer any reasonable questions you have, either by PM or post. And, Hopping, my point is that I think you are too conspiracy-orientated. I have never before heard of web bots, and frankly I couldn’t care less if I am the only guest looking in on TSR; more fool the others, I say.
You honestly don't see how looking up the results of people who don't know you, who have never even met you, doesn't make you seem a bit creepy?

There's a pretty big difference between my family and some random bloke off the Internet taking a keen interest in my results.
Nope - I honestly don't. I am completely baffled that nobody seems to understand this. And I am not 'some random bloke'.

Exactly, and I mean this in the nicest possible way because I assume you are just caring about your daughter, but if my mum and dad were watching my posts and my friends posts I'd be kinda upset. Your daughter needs her independence and it's almost as though you are impeding on her privacy. I genuinely think you were just trying to be friendly to Tufts but imagine if you were in her situation and you posted on a website and someone had done the same to you... I'd be pretty freaked out too and I'm sure you would!

Look, if you're going to continue with your odd voyeuristic antics, don't keep everyone in the Durham sub-forum posted on it. It's weird and it freaks people out.

And yes, it's not normal to show that much of an interest in somebody's results, bearing in mind that you have no connection to them, and have no idea who they are..

The forum, though public is still called "The Student Room", and while you're entitled to read the threads and even make posts, you should seriously try getting a life and leaving your nose out of peoples' lives.

You are to me, and they were MY results.
Dudes, calm down, he's only doing something that maybe isn't that normal. Is this just a reflection of a conformity based society whereby anyone practising anything not normal is labelled 'creepy'? Maybe it's the effect of tabloid hysteria so that now whenever anyone does anything like this slightly out of the norm they're a creepy, shady man? I bet you imagine him with a moustache and a beige overcoat.

"odd voyeuristic antics" - Sorry, but sod off. He's looking at exam results of people he knows to associate with his daughter, 90% of us - if not more - will have been a lot more 'voyeuristic' browsing through random people on facebook; you know, that 'facebook stalking' which everyone seems to have so much fun joking about these days.

I'd be the first to admit it may be slightly odd behaviour, but so what? Jeeebus.

I agree entirely with what you say about Tufts. The post was done on the spur of the moment and I had not thought it through from her point of view. That was stupid and unacceptable. As soon as I realised my error, I acknowledged it, tried to explain it, and then apologised. My clumsy efforts just made matters worse and I can see why Tufts may still feel troubled by it. It is up to me to do everything I reasonably can to assure her and others that there was no mischievous intent.
I share goldenbarnes' view entirely.

Please, get a grip. Just listen to yourself, especially when it's coming from someone who has over 1,500 posts on the site.

Then explain, who are you? Is your daughter on my degree? Should I know her?

I wish he would and then I could prove what an absolute twit you are.

Did you read goldenbarnes' post about 'voyeuristic' browsing through random people on facebook'? You never done that?

No.

Please explain what that is about and the motivation behind it.
The problem here is Durham's lack of confidentiality. When I used to get my exam results at my University the list of results named students by their matriculation number only (not thir name), meaning you could check your own results by looking up your number without the worry of others seeing what you got. Exam results are a private matter in my opinion.
