JCR charges differ between colleges on what they offer, but generally will cover things like:
-Damages (including sporting areas like tennis courts etc which are used by both liver in and outs) -The college library -Your college day in 3rd term, and sometimes used to subsidise the Balls -I guess things like IT facilities, music rooms, all that stuff!
You get charged this whether you live in or out of college, simply because you're a member of the JCR. You can opt out of being a member of the JCR but this means you're technically not allowed to use the facilities such as the library, gym, computer rooms, TV rooms, and even formals!
Are you actually from the USA or is that just you putting a random flag on your profile? I only ask because most people in the UK will have heard of the Great North Run.
It's a 13.1 mile run in Newcastle/Gateshead and it's officially "the world's biggest half marathon" with 50,000 people running it each year. It's awesome. Do it
PS. I was in Trevs last night to see my 4th year/postgrad mates. Was weird seeing all the Freshers around! Then I was at the bar and some girl told me she was in my bar quiz team on the Open Days (I didn't remember her) then asked to borrow 50p! The cheek! But I gave her it, doubt I'll ever get it back
Will be back on Sunday, haha! I may never leave
From the US, moved to the UK a year ago. The west country, so maybe that's why I haven't heard of it until now. It sounds good though.
Yeah, Collingwood's is not a cheap one either. If you want to make the most of said charge, steal lots of printer paper and build things with it, like a sofa.
^Yes... that's what I was thinking too. The college bill is staring at me from my desk, but I really can't pay it until my loan comes through. Life here feels very expensive!
^ Agreed. D: If only the Tesco was closer; Waitrose is bloody expensive. I really need to get some sort of weekly budget sorted. Obviously it's gone completely out the window this week, but I can't let it do that all the time.
I think I have enough food to see me through for a few more days! I've hardly spent any money so far actually, but I don't drink much at all and I've only joined one society so far (waiting to see whether I want to join anymore before I cough up the cash), but I did join the History Society in the holidays.

Tesco/Asda delivery? If you club together with other people in your flat/corridor/whatever it is you have in Butler it should be worth your while.
Cuth's put a £20 association charge on the bill, basically to be a member of Cuth's. Surley that's compulsary so they decided not to charge anymore and this has gone on as an item on the invoice in brackets (meaning it's minus). It seems to confuse people and my maths roomies didn't know a figure in brackets ment credit.

Do not use the library, this is false economy.
ITS have realised that people have started to steal paper from College printers (ITS supply it) and we were warned in Trevs that if it continued to be stolen that we would "face the consequences" (whatever they were) so I'd suggest not going down that path.
