Such as?

A qualification in stand-up?

Vague foriegn ones that dont count on the tariff, the IB would have worked 3 years ago for example. They are probably very valid qualifications (in a fair few cases better than A-levels), they are just unusual and not counted in the score.

WHAT THE **** GUYS!?

I just went to check train times back from Newcastle on a SATURDAY night, and apparently there are NONE between 10pm and 8am Sunday.

I checked such things before and there was a midnight, 2 and 4am train. What the hell are they thinking? That people DONT want to go into the city for nights out on a Saturday. What a ludicrous notion.

Ugh, another night stuck in. Im so sick of this.

It's always been that way. Because, midnight on Saturday is actually Sunday, and due to Sunday work laws they don't have a train past 10pm. I got stuck once and had to take a taxi. Luckily we found 4 other people going back to durham so it cost about £3 each.
Absolute jokes. I'm so upset. I'll never go out!!

You can go out on nights that aren't Saturday - although they've cancelled the 2am train on other nights also, there is still the 4.30am train.

Otherwise if there is a group of you going out, book a taxi or a minibus in advance and it'll be cheap as cheesy chips

(I went to see Mark Steel )

Glad to see some Mark Steel appreciation on here! Talking of famous people, I'm sure I saw Roy Keane outside the DSU on Thursday night just walking past. If it wasn't him then it was a very good lookalike with a convincing Irish accent.

Sadly none of my friends knew who he was and so couldn't confirm my sighting.
I saw him outside Elvet Riverside about 10 days ago. Wearing a baseball cap and trying not to show his face.

I don't see what's so difficult about having a train at 2am to be honest... I might have to write a furious D21 article now.

I made 2 chocolate cakes yesterday, one of which was devoured by my flatmates in about 20 minutes, and the other of which went to Trevs to be devoured by some hungry freshers. Bake! It's the way forward, even in rubbish Butler ovens!
Roy Keane lives near Durham, hence why there are so many sightings of him. He hangs around in Hide a lot from what I've heard...

Although I agree that I loved the 2am train, to answer the question "what's so difficult"....

Considering the train before 2am is around 11pm, and the train after is 4.30am (which is the first train of the day) then it means having staff at the station from 11pm until 2am and then closing it then, for 2.5hrs before the first train. It's clearly far easier for them to close the station after 11pm and then just open it at 4.30am, rather than having the annoyance of a train at 2am.

Bearing in mind that many people are drunk getting the 2am train they generally will have a police presence at thes tation, then they will need a member of staff at the station door, then about 2 or 3 inspectors at the train to make sure people are paying for tickets, then there's the driver obviously, and I'm guessing they would have 1 (maybe 2?) people at some sort of control centre place to make sure the train leaves safely.

Then on top of that, you need the staff at Durham station and so on!

It's unfortunate, but it makes sense - even if they made a decent amount of money out of the students, I'm not sure it would have made them a profit. :frown:

Ah good good, I didn't think I was going mad.

I've walked past Bobby Robson's house in Neville's Cross, or at least the one that my boyfriend thinks he lives in!!
I don't know whether not not Roy Keane hangs around Durham, but either way it is a fantastic rumour.

Well he does manage Sunderland which is only a few miles away from Durham, it's not exactly outrageous that he should be in Durham every now and then... Loads of footballers/managers have lived in Durham in the past, including the likes of Kevin Keegan, Alan Shearer and others who aren't as impressive as these and so I won't bother to mention them :p:!
Sorry to butt in but,

"Wanting more privacy, his family had a 1930s home bulldozed so they could build a new £2.5 million house near Hale[52]. Keane now lives in the Durham area, near Sunderland, having stated his intentions to move to the region as a signal of his commitment to his managerial duties at the club."

Good old trusty Wikipedia.

Bake? Pah. Too much effort when Spoons dish out orgasms for £3.75 a pop.
