True, but that does not make suicide any less cowardly.

It takes a lot of balls to kill yourself. Death is a frightening thing.

It's the people who are just a going through the down patches that characterise life, rather than actually being clinically depressed, that give those who do suffer from clinical depression a bad name.

That's a better way of viewing it

Clinical depression is a chronic, 24/7 experience. Even when something good is happening in your life, you still feel like an empty shell.

However merely feeling a bit down because something bad has occurred is actually healthy.

That depends on your philosophy, I guess.

Clinical depression is not permanent, it is a state of mind.

Surely the uncertainty of what death entails is what scares people who are unfortunate enough to be in a position to want to end their lives, rather than the actual act of killing themselves, that's frightening?

Well if they are in such a position, what are they scared of? That death is going to be so much worse and they will roast in the eternal fires of hell?

Yes its the uncertainty that turns me into a wuzz.

My point from earlier really, put more eloquently than I could manage.

Yes, there is, though it would have to be a lot of constant pain. Though I would still regard them as a coward for taking the easy option here.

That seems a bit callous to me, but your opinion on the matter is consistant I suppose.

Well, when you're in that position you're fundamentally going to be a pessimist, and you know that there's no going back if you don't like what you find.

It depends if you believe in reincarnation or not I guess. Though coming to think of, you have not really said where you stand on all of this...

Yep, really all you done is guessed at what some POV's might be. You never gave your own.

To me, clinical depression is a real illness that is belittled by people who think that bad patches are a symptom of them being depressed.

Although I don't personally think I would ever contemplate suicide, I've never been clinically depressed so I guess it's quite difficult to understand why anybody would want to cut short their life.

I don't personally have a strong stance on euthanasia, because, like abortion, I don't really think you can understand the situations of individuals who are faced with the issues unless you're in their shoes.

Hmm, but would you regard those people who commit suicide as cowardly, which was the original thing where all this sprouted out from, and would you regard condoning suicide as sort of encouraging it?

By the way you can have a strong opinon on things that you are not directly involved with. In a way, you are more objective about it. People have very strong opinions on peace, war and terror for example, despite most not being directly involved.

I do have strong views on other issues, it's just that things that I've been exposed to through contact with those who've had to deal with them mean that I tend to become more sensitive, less judgemental and end up sitting on the fence rather than taking a strong view.

I find it cold and hostile, and the people are secrative and selfish.
